iabeerguy (158), Iowa, USA Sep 29, 2009 Reddish brown with a white foamy head. Nice lacing and a pretty impressive beer. yobdoog (1420), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Sep 29, 2009 Light amber color. Clean and crisp. Light bitterness and some caramel malts. Nothing offensive and easy to drink. bluto1978 (12), Michigan, USA Sep 28, 2009 A good pale ale. Not to heavy but not to light. Good flavor but is not going to over power you. kindestcut (30), Addison, Texas, USA Sep 27, 2009 Bass pours a clear amber/gold with a moderate head that lasts but a couple of minutes. Liberal carbonation is evident.
The aroma is faintly hoppy, floral and clean. The aroma is not overpowering yet hits the nose as you take a drink.
The taste is crisp, with a slight bitterness and faint malt sweetness. Bass is not incredibly strong flavored yet has enough there to be enjoyable. It’s not a "lite" beer but is light flavored.
Of all the "light" tasting classic ales, this is the one I like the best. Now, I know...it’s not a great beer. But it is good and it is very refreshing. I see Bass as a good beer, not heavy and with lower alcohol. RHeastings (377), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 26, 2009 Enjoyed from a 24oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a nice light copper to medium amber color, with a nice and fairly long-lasting white head. The nose brings a fairly complex and rich malt character, showing some biscuit notes and caramel. The palate brings straight-forward, but nicely blended malt notes; giving strong hints of caramel, and more subtle ones of biscuit, toffee, and just a touch of raison. The finish is rather full and just a bit sweet, but the flavors quickly leave the mouth, allowing the beer to be fairly refreshing on a warm day. Overall, this is obviously a very popular and widely available beer, but, given my experience, perhaps an underrated one, as well. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Sep 25, 2009 500. Another of these sharp-looking square-shouldered UK 500s. Pours a crystal clear coppery medium amber. Loose sudsy grayish head. Plenty of lace coming down the sides of the glass. Sweet, cloying, treacly nose--raisins, figs, caramel, quite a few unexpected notes. These UK ESBs can get awfully sweet. Creamy medium body with very little palpable carb. More sweets on the mid-palate; bready malts with raisins and figs and sticky molasses flavors, along with a sharpness that seems to come out of nowhere. Tastes chemically, this sharpness, whatever it is. Mild finish. 1010 (206), Marysville, Ohio, USA Sep 18, 2009 pours a golden color with a white head
Decent beer for a mass produced pale ale.
draft beer Fratto (662), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 15, 2009 Orange to red pour with a decent head. Not too bitter, but enough to make me happy. Finishes pretty well.
