quizmaster (13), USA Dec 19, 2007 From the Guinness family, Bass is an excellent choice for a commercial, mass market ale. The ale has a tasty appearance and goes down pretty well too dsm (109), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Dec 16, 2007 Draft. Amber color, medium head. Clean, smooth, but not much depth to the taste. Not nearly enough hops. I will pick it up only if there is nothing else better on draft. llcooldave (309), San Antonio, Texas, USA Dec 14, 2007 Soapy looking head, with a nice copper color. Slight smokey malt aroma. Light on the palate with a very clean and drinkable finish. Nice beer if you are just starting to venture out from the big 3 American brews. elelwarren (138), SF Bay area, California, USA Dec 14, 2007 From bottle at a holiday party. Scent of grapes. Pours a rosé color, with quickly dissipating head. Flavor vinous, fruity and somewhat sweet, but then becoming soapy. High carbonation & prickly when you want it smooth. Doesn’t work and will not ever purchase. TheBeerMaster (100), Little Falls, New Jersey, USA Dec 11, 2007 Highly refreshing, a little bit of a copper/nickely finish, but balanced. Everyone’s pretty familiar with Bass, so no need to go crazy defining it. Worthwhile. sew13 (9), Cranston, Rhode Island, USA does not count Dec 11, 2007 This brew hits it home for me. Refreshing to say the least. Highly carbonated with a slightly metalic after taste. Nice balance of malt and hops. Overall quite refreshing. stevenski (3), USA does not count Dec 10, 2007 everyone knows it... it ain’t new... but it’s the one I rate all the others by... and it’s the one that gets sucked up the most by visitors to the humble abode. pkbites (309), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 9, 2007 I’ve had this a couple times over the years, both on tap and in bottle/can form. I can’t believe I haven’t rated it until now. Paid $4.99 for four 16 ounce cans at some liquor store in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Pours a lovely dark amber/deep copper, slightly orange brew. Head is beige and off white, creamy with a bit of brown to it. Smellls of warm bread baking in the distance. A very nice looking, nice smelling beer, but that’s where it ends.
This is not malty enough and there are not enough hops detected. Bitterness is extremely slight. Aftertaste is all but nonexistent. Some after-taste, but so short lived you won’t remember it.
This just isn’t worth the price, and not what one expects from a European beer. A lightweight in the PALE ALE category, if you ask me.
