Drjohnrock (95), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 3, 2007 The beers available at Coney Island (Cincinnati, not NY) for the 7/3/07 hot air balloon/fireworks bash were Dud, Dud Blight, Diller Blight, Borona, and this--easy choice. Attractive amber color, aroma of sweet malt and faint hops, taste much the same. A classic in a way but not a standard for either pale ale or bitter. Still, the beer to have when the only other options are the aforementioned losers. On edit: 12 ounce bottle poured into (sigh) plastic cup. You do what you can with the materials on hand. Quietman (160), Florida, USA Jul 1, 2007 Draft.Light amber.Little head left when I got it.Sweet malty aroma.Smooth texture, nice mouthfeel. Glazed9884 (207), USA Jun 30, 2007 xxx Good beer for something mass produced. Bass is good to relax and drink, very accessible. bradmurray (1), Pennington, New Jersey, USA does not count Jun 29, 2007 This is my desert island beer. While it’s not nearly as complex as many, if I could have only one for the rest of time, this is it. JStumpf (13), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 28, 2007 Poured from a 12 oz bottle, a pretty copper-amber colored body is produced with a negligable bone head. A ringlet of foam is all that remains after a few minutes, and there is no lacing. Aroma is very English: leather, sweet malty caramel, and hints of raisin and plum.
The taste stores a bit of a bitter surprise, almost like an ESB, with a medicinally hoppy bite mixed with notes of wheat and biscuit. It’s a bit like drinking some orange juice too soon after brushing one’s teeth. Mouthfeel is juicy with a medium body and below-average carbonation. This isn’t a great pale ale by any means, but it’s a decent attempt from the boys across the pond. I won’t be buying any anytime soon, but I’d never turn one down. After thirteen, I took home the girl I found vomiting in the men’s bathroom. fnord (1), USA does not count Jun 27, 2007 The standard English style pale. Out of a bottle - light amber color with medium head. Smells of caramel. Malts are mostly sweet; bitterness is mild for a pale. Smooth mouthfeel. Overall, a very pleasant beer, good for short to medium sessions.
For some reason, prices can vary a lot, so try not to get ripped off. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jun 25, 2007 On draft. Aroma is sweet roasty toffee. Pours amber with a velvetty head. Flavor is mostly sweet malt, some buttery notes, crisp finish, but not bitey. Very light hops. Very creamy. A nice beer in pasteurized form, I can only imagine how good it tastes when fresh. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 24, 2007 Updated: Oct 28, 2007Pours a brilliant amberish caramel orange color with creamy off white head. Has a very mild smell of maltiness and caramel. Taste is very smooth, a bit malty, with a creaminess. Great mouthfeel, somewhat lightly flavored, and is very drinkable. Quite good, with a subtle overall taste and aftertaste. A great overall beer.
