COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available filtered in bottles, cans, and kegs.
A version of Bass, primarily for the North American market at 5%.
Brewed from the late 70’s at Burton. In 2000, after Interbrew bought the Bass brand, production was switched to the Ulster brewery in Northern Ireland. In 2003 production and distribution was switched to Latrobe for a 12-18 period after which it reverted to the UK, latterly at InBev’s Samlesbury brewery. As of 2012, the US version was being produced at A-B InBev’s Baldwinsville brewery but production at Samlesbury continues for other export markets.

One of my favorites, and how I haven’t rated it before this kind of makes me wonder! God pour with white head some lacing and a very nice dark gold color. Malt predominates with some hops coming through. A good solid standby that is often available on tap.

I really enjoy drinking a Bass. My current bar beer -- I’ve never had a bad bottle.

One of my favorites. Pours dark amber with a smallish head. Roasted aroma with a hint of malt. Taste is somewhat roasted and malty. Great beer, always pleases.

A very delightful beer. I enjoyed the slightly bitter hops. A nice smooth body and full head gave the beer a desireable effect.

From bottle. Beautiful copper/amber colour, and nice thick white lacing that remained throught the glass. Nice malty flavour with slight bitter/sweet taste. Clean finish... will drink again!

Remarkably better beer than I was anticipating for one so readily available. Less hoppy than you might expect for an English ale, but I wouldn’t change the formula in any way. The light hopiness lets the perfectly toasty (not at all "cooked" or burnt) malt character come through. Small but fine and lasting head. Medium body with plenty of fine carbonation and a full but not heavy mouthfeel. Delightful. BUY AGAIN? Oh yeah!

Have been drinking this for sometime now, and it really never gets old. Great fluffy head when poured, deep copper color, and a smooth, light taste//finish. Beautiful bubbles keep the head ’ahead’ =y . . almost mesmerizing to watch.... great ale ..

Pour is a beautifully clear copper/amber. About an inch of off-white head. Tremendously fantastic outstanding lace throughout the whole glass. Ditto the second and third glass. Faint carmelly malty aroma. Good smooth sweet malty taste. Man, I didn’t expect this. Subtle and complex. The hops surprise me again - prominent, but not overdone. What surprises me the most is how this beer holds up over time. I somehow had pre-conceived notions that it would lose its ’oomph’ and grow thin. It didn’t. It stood up sip after sip. The maltiness, the blend of flavors, the hops around the edges for balance. Perfect soft carbonation. Very fresh tasting. Very refreshing, yet at the same time bold and somewhat complex. One sip begs another. And I still can’t get over the lace - I can count the rings.

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2005 Rerate: Took another look at this one after recent comparisons to "puddle water" etc. Nope, my DECIDEDLY non-"Arrogant Bastard" taste buds call this a SOLID 4, elitist tastes not-withstanding. Stacked this one head to head with NB Fat Tire Ale. Great appearance! Frothy white head, beacoup lacing, great activity. Bitter attack, mild across the tongue, moderate finish, rather thin. Fat Tire, less the robustness, the flavor, and the COMFORT. A fine quaff for social settings. Save the Fat Tire for special autumn evenings, a fireplace, and all that! MUCH more hoppy for fans of that taste. A very fine brew all the same, can’t figure out why this not labeled an ESB.
