Bottles from Capone’s and Wegman’s Collegeville. Pours burnt sienna with 1-finger khaki head. Nose is roasty charred black patent malt, mild cacao, choc malt, hops. Tastes of charred black malt, mild cacao, dry with some hops. Comes off as a hoppy black lager, and a watery one at that.

Poor is a inky black with a small tan head. Aroma is actually a pretty decent roast with an ever so slight coffee. Flavor is much weaker. A very minor roast with some dirty malt and a bit of sourness. Probably should not get the low rating it has. Just slightly above par b/c of the nice aroma it gave off.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Aurelius (3443) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 18, 2013
Soft, nutty roast aroma with ale overtones. Good packaging, inky beer, an almost purple tan head. Dry, lightly acidic roast flavor, slight nuttiness. Medium-light body, frothy mouthfeel. Sessionable, but it won’t put hair on your chest. ABC, Betton.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 chinchill (571) - South Carolina, USA - MAR 31, 2013
The 12 oz bottle poured dark mahogany, looking near black in my snifter. The modest tan head soon reduces to a thin partial coat and a ring that leaves spotty lacing.
The earthy aroma is mostly just from roasted grain, although there is a hint of hops.
Taste: rather simple and mild, with minimal (for style) dark roasted grain but some earthy, peppery, and mildly bitter hops that lead to a fairly good finish and aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: medium-thin body with relatively lively, medium carbonation and a slighly dry finish.
Overall: a mild and simple but acceptable stout that is a bit weak on flavor,

Nice drinkable stout that was more sweet to me than dry. Very low alcohol for a non-nitrous beer. Meh.

$7.99 fr the "Black and Tan Pub Kit" 6pack. It had the Pale Ale and the Stout side by side. To pint it pours a murky dark brown with a trim biege head. Smells and tastes of Saltine crackers, charcoal, seaweed, plastic, sweat, and artichoke hearts. Drinkable, but that’sabout t.

Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle - part of a St Patick;s Day gimmicky mix pack with Bass Ale. Dark brown, cola-like pour with redddish tints, quickly diminishing off-white head. Aroma has some faint cereal notes, a hint of fresh lake water. Flavor has some earthy tones, light licorice, some potting soil, a touch of black coffee. Mouthfeel is thick enough, could be a tad chalkier. Decent.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 heemer77 (5008) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - MAR 14, 2013
Bottle from the Black and Tan kit. A light brown sugar head tops a perfectly black colored body. A sweet molasses nose has notes of plums and yeasty raw dough. The flavors are like an ashy cheap tobacco along with notes of sweet tea. There is also a little bit of old green wood. The carbonation is light, yet somehow still sharp on the tongue. This is big glass of OK.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ronaldtheriot (778) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - FEB 21, 2013
Bass Stout has a thick, creamy beige head, a very dark brown appearance with some ruby highlights around the edges, and a good amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is of dark-roasted barley malt, brown bread crust, cream, sugar, and malt. Taste is smokey, charcoal, brown bread, bread crust, and some bitterness, but not really hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Bass Stout finishes dry, chalky, and easy drinking. Overall, this is a very nice effort, and I suggest a try. RJT
