Bottle from the Black and Tan kit. A light brown sugar head tops a perfectly black colored body. A sweet molasses nose has notes of plums and yeasty raw dough. The flavors are like an ashy cheap tobacco along with notes of sweet tea. There is also a little bit of old green wood. The carbonation is light, yet somehow still sharp on the tongue. This is big glass of OK.

Soft, nutty roast aroma with ale overtones. Good packaging, inky beer, an almost purple tan head. Dry, lightly acidic roast flavor, slight nuttiness. Medium-light body, frothy mouthfeel. Sessionable, but it won’t put hair on your chest. ABC, Betton.

Dark brown/ruby color with a small head. Light roast, some fruitiness in the aroma, maybe banana. Mild chocolate and roast flavor. A bit metallic.

Rated on 4-17-2014 (Bottle) This beer pours a large smooth tan head that mostly diminishes, mostly opaque dark brown with a red tint body and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted, dark malt, chocolate, light coffee, and a bit earthy. The taste is lightly bitter, roasted malt, chocolate, and earthy. The mouthfeel is clean and thin. This beer is light bodied. Overall, this is an easy drinking beer, but very thin and on the watery side.

12 oz. Opaque with a covering of sticky foam. Mild nose of coffee, char, caramel and a dash of orange zest. Taste is caramel apple, sour berry, bittersweet chocolate, with a touch of char on the finish. Medium body is soft and well balanced, but is a tad too fizzy with medium-high carbonation.

The aroma is slightly burnt with hints of dirty water, coffee, chocolate, and molasses. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. This might have been a decent stout but after the Big Eddy I just had it seems like cheap swill.

Poor is a inky black with a small tan head. Aroma is actually a pretty decent roast with an ever so slight coffee. Flavor is much weaker. A very minor roast with some dirty malt and a bit of sourness. Probably should not get the low rating it has. Just slightly above par b/c of the nice aroma it gave off.

Bottle.Chocolate and light coffee aroma. Black with a moderate tan head. Watery chocolate, barley malt, and roasty flavor. Light side of medium body, lively carbonation. Rather easy drinking.

2 June 2013, tap. Black with thin, creamy head. Nose is bitter dark chocolate, toast. Thin body and mildly fizzy, a bit creamy. Lots of bitter, dark chocolate. Not as balanced as Guinness. Still, it's decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The 12 oz bottle poured dark mahogany, looking near black in my snifter. The modest tan head soon reduces to a thin partial coat and a ring that leaves spotty lacing. The earthy aroma is mostly just from roasted grain, although there is a hint of hops. Taste: rather simple and mild, with minimal (for style) dark roasted grain but some earthy, peppery, and mildly bitter hops that lead to a fairly good finish and aftertaste. Mouthfeel: medium-thin body with relatively lively, medium carbonation and a slighly dry finish. Overall: a mild and simple but acceptable stout that is a bit weak on flavor,
