UPDATED: MAY 31, 2010 Very nice dubbel. Pours a very cloudy reddish-brown, coppery even. Almost no head and very light lacing. Aroma is mild and slightly fruity. Tastes a bit sweet, with caramel maltiness, and a sour/fruity component. Crisp, creamy, moderate to low carbonation, overall very enjoyable.

I live down the street from Bastones and I never get tired of this one. Medium body, smooth carmel flavors, and it goes down nice.

I had this on tap at the brew pub in Royal Oak, MI. It was a lot darker than I expected, and had no head. I actually really liked the caramel and slight tangy fruitiness on the finish. We ordered some soft pretzel sticks with cheese dip that went incredibly well with the beer. I think this should be at least an 80 overall. Cheers!

Pint at the brewpub on Michigan Trip ’06. Dark hazy brown, frothy tanned head - looked good. Mild sweet malt, yeast, alcohol aroma. Decent taste - lots of alcohol, very sweet. Too watery and thin though, and very simple - I like my Dubbels to have some complexity. Simple and tasty with a little too much alcohol burn. I think I liked it better than the rest of the guys, but they were far better offerings here.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jerc (5580) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 23, 2006
Draft @ the brewpub. Dark ruddy brown body, average sized beige head and fairly solid lacing. Sweet belgian alcohol aroma. Surprisingly hot alcohol makes itself known quickly, deep medium toffee and caramel malt. Medium palate (3+).

7-22-06 MBG. Mahogany, with huge tan head. Aroma is very muted. Fruity esters but a certain soapiness I can’t get past. Flavor quite nice. Plenty of dark fruit, prune, fig, and overripe banana. Again get a certain soapiness in the finish, really kills the beer for me. Re-rate in the near future.

Tap. Copper colored. Nice long-lived white head and great lacing. Fairly bitter. Aroma of malt, alcohol and floral hops. Decent.
