tasted at the MBG winter festival. I really liked this one more than the one from last year. Nice body and flavor with a pleasant aroma. 8-9% is placed nicely in there. Best one I’ve had around in a while.

On tap: The aroma consists of fruit, bubblegum, Belgian yeast, apples, and faint spice. It’s a golden orange with a small white head. The flavor starts with fruit, bubblegum, and Belgian yeast. The finish has orange peel and some spicy notes. It’s medium-bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it’s a damn good Tripel, but my rating is based on my hedonistic liking of Tripels. If Tripels are your thing, this is one worth seeking out.

Golden with thin white head. Floral, citrus, and yeast aroma notes. Sweet malt, alcohol, and citrus flavour notes. Carbonated with slightly sour finish.

Pour is a nice cloudy golden with a large white head. Aroma has decent amounts of candi sugar, yeast and some citrus. Flavor needs some work. Super sweet with candi sugar taking over everything. Finish hides the alcohol well but leave a berry on thei tounge. Average at best.

7-22-06 MBG. Golden yellow, no head whatsoever. Aroma has nice candi sugar and floral hop balance. Flavor much the same but with a spicy alcoholic bite to it, like many tripels. Mouthfeel is flat and oily. Standard tripel through and through, just tripels aren’t my thing.

Written up recently in All About Beer, Bastone might be getting some national attention. I went back on a recent visit to see if things had changed. While they know serve the tripel in the right glass (once, all beer was served in pint glasses), they are still on the verge of good beer. This is a decent tripel, golden and slightly fruity. But nowhere near Dragonmead’s local beer, Absolution.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma of wood, yeast and citrus. The flavor is good with a tripel standard of yeast and citrus but there’s something weird and unpleasant in there that ruins the tasting experience.

MBG 06. Odd plastic aroma, sweet. Dark yellow, still. Biting alcohol taste, well carbonated, lots of hops in finish. Much better taste than the aroma. Not complex at all, but ok.

Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Clear golden colour. Interesting aroma - quite sweet, notes of peach, with a yeasty end note. Flavour is sweet and herbal, with a bit of sour woodiness. I’m not sure what to make of this - I didn’t like it at first, but by the end of the sample, I was enjoying it. Now that I see it’s 9% I’m even more impressed, as it hid that quite nicely.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2006 Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Hazy gold-yellow with a small white head. Slightly sour spruce bough bitterness, sourish spice (don’t ask which, just sour, okay?), very light candyish malt; yeasty. Taste is similar, oddly grainy for a tripel, not much alcohol, sort of funky herbal finish. Thick, candyish body (coated my tongue), mildly carbonated, again, that herbal finish was quite long for something this light - oddly grainy and sour for the style, but I found myself quite enjoying it.
