Tastes very malty....almost slightly under fermented. Not much head. Poor balance. Im not a fan of this.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brigadier (2230) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - JUN 9, 2012
22 ounce bottle
Having traveled to the area where Bat Creek is brewed and missing out once I managed to find a couple of examples in the Saint Louis area. For a rural brewery it is nothing special. Then again every beer does not have to a world beater especially when you get a chance to affordably support a regional up and comer.
Aroma / Appearance - The pour results in a glass filled with a soft black base and head the color of faded yellowing newspaper. Licorice, Nestle Quik, and traces of ash are simple but sell themselves well.
Flavor / Palate - Carbonated and fluid, the mouthfeel bubbles across the palate. A little note of olives is distracting but eventually goes away. When it does the finish is of Hershey’s chocolate and ash. Despite the flaws it shows some promise. Maybe if I ever go through central Missouri again I’ll try to find a few more.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Bif (1022) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAR 7, 2012
Bottle- Pours a black color with a tan head that lasts until the end with nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and trace of coffee. Taste of bittersweet chocolate, some coffee with a nice bitterness and a clean finish. Full body, smooth and creamy. Very good stout that goes down easy. Best beer I have had from this small regional brewer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 alcaponejunior (349) - Texas, USA - FEB 20, 2012
Quite black with a good one finger tan head and pretty good lace. Roasty and toasty malts come through nicely, as does a pleasant sweetness. Coffee is pretty well represented, as is chocolate. It’s a tasty brew, I’m glad to see small, local breweries brewing such nice stuff. I’ve had it several times now and keep picking up a bomber every now and then when I hit St Louis, so that says a lot.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Strykzone (3813) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - FEB 10, 2012
Bomber. Trying this with a case of the flu. We will see how the taste buds are. Almost no red in this black beer and a persistent layer of tan foam. A nose that offers cream and chocolate flakes. They are also prominent in the flavor. Some citrus hops add bitterness and complexity. Roasted notes, too, with oatmeal. Some astringency in the aftertaste is a bit of a turnoff. This was pretty good even with challenged taste buds.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a very nice chocolate with roasted malt. Flavor is the same but equally fine. Big roasted malts with some bitterness toward the end. Lots of chocolate resin is left after the swallow. This is a very nice stout and the best beer by this local brewer by far.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (8212) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 5, 2011
Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours dark brown (nearly black) with a mid-sized, fluffy, khaki head. Excellent retention. The aroma is a simple, but luxuriant marriage of mocha and vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Sweet lacto-stout flavor with wonderful components of mocha, chocolate crème, vanilla, caramel and espresso-roasted malts. Sweet cappuccino finish with a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Thanks go out to phaleslu for shipping this world class effort my way!

It poured a dark brown color with a nice tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, malts, some coffee, nuts and oats. The flavor was pretty much the same as the aroma, with chocolate, roasty malts, some cocoa and sugar. A very good stout.
