COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - Wetherspoon Beer Festival Autumn 2012
Patrick Hendrikse and Bart Obertop have travelled to Batemans Brewery, in Lincolnshire, to collaborate in brewing this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. This ruby-coloured ‘bock bier’ contains highlights of maltiness and a touch of roast in the flavour, while the German hops combine to provide a smooth bitterness. Hops used: Hallertauer Tradition, Northern Brewer

Cask Half Pint – JDW Fest Autumn 2012 - Ruby coloured ‘bock bier’. Malty; toasty/roasty malts, caramel. Fruity; dark fruits. Hoppy; slight balancing hop bitterness. Smooth. Sweet malty fruity throughout. Very drinkable.

Cask, Wetherspoons fest Carlisle from a while back!. Aroma is low, but more than made up for by rich fruit flavours on the tongue. Brown sugar notes, medicinal finish, full-bodied and flavoursome. The Batemans characteristics do come through, but without too much of the banana flavours that I associate with their beers.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Reddish amber with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and orange fruit with some heavy alcohol in the finish. Not for me.

Ruby with a slight sweet nose to it. Sweet tasting with a noticeable strength.

Cask handpull, The Larry (JDW), Nuneaton, 13/11/12. Deep cream capped with chestnut. GK-like black cherry, oak and aniseed aroma; really milky mocha. Black cherry, oak, toffee-draped flavour. The pepper of booze wrapped in softness. Sweet, muted, balanced....and a bit naughty.

A dark, ckear amber pint with a thin head and not much to note by way of aroma. The flavour is fruity but quite crisp and is strong enough to be tasty without being overpowering. An enjoyable pint.

1/3 pint, cask at The Knights Templar. Deep, ruby-amber coloured body. Lasting, creamy off-white head. Earthy, mid-sweet malts to the nose. Brown, semi-sweet malts in flavour strengthen by a fruity touch. Smooth malt bitter finish. Nice (London, 01.11.2012).

Hand pulled at the Briar Rose, Birmingham. Bland opening, but adds a blubous fist of yeasty/malty strength in the after-gulp. Dry, slightly metallic finish - perhaps best likened to formica. Not the best.

[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading] Reddish-brown with a beige head and a slight fizz. Sweet, with toffee and banana coming through. A little chilli and plum too. Warming, a little greasy, little evidence of hops. OK, but definitely a bit too sweet for me.
