Cask Handpump at the Union Rooms, Newcastle (JDW) 31/10/2005.
Black and stout like in appearence but with the smoothness of a mild. Plenty of berry fruits with some sweetness whisky hints and roast in the finish.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Obviously now out of retirement and part of the JDW Autumn Beer Festival. Black beer, thin lasting tight dark beige head. Milky dark roasted malts and some hop aroma. Fairly full in mouth with grainy roastedness on finish and good bitterness that tingles the tongue. Nice dark beer

Cask conditioned, at Batemans Visitor Centre. Ruby red, off white head and moderate condition. Low maltiness in the nose, some fruitiness and sweetness in the mouth. Uninspiring in the finish.

Its not like many other beers that I’ve personally had. Its deep brown colour, little or no head, and pungent fruity aroma make for an interesting drink. Its packed full of flavour, mainly due to the roasted malts. It clearly has a sharp ’twang’ to it which may not be to everyones liking. Unusual.

Cask Conditioned at The Falkland Arms, Gt. Tew, Oxon. Dark brown beer with beige head. Looks good, but this is mainly a malt overdose, sweet and chocolate maltiness, some nut, some fruit. An attempt at a finish, but most of the flavours lose their impact.

This is a strange beer. Pours almost like a stout, with rich brown creamy head however disappears and reveles a ruby liquid. Aroma is seriously minimal with some lightly sour malts. Taste is mmm, what is goign on here, this is like a brown ale with soem sourness, lacking somewhat in flavour but the sort of red wine and a touch of vinigar give it character. Im wondering if this keg is slightlky off but i only tapped it 2 days ago so it should be fine, maybe have to try it again further through the keg.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 5, 2011
Tasted this in The Esquire House, Glasgow in November 2005. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a off white head. Dusty drinking chocolate and roast grain in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a maltloaf base with coffe, bitter chocolate and roast coffee notes. Slight hint of damson fruit as well. Bitter hop resins present in the dry aftertaste which soon give way to a roasted grain note in the short finish. An ok session ale which tastes more like a mild to be honest?

Cask. Black/reddish beer with a sour and watery flavour and a vinous and very mild aroma. Overall quite a watery beer.

Cask conditioned @ Giddy bridge (JDW), Soton. Blackberries and light malt. Fruity and vinous witha zingy finish. Thin with a hidden ’damp’ feel. Appeared and drank like a dark mild.
