3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DavoleBomb (1143) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Poured into a snifter. Mr. George’s Ruby Porter is the name on this.
3.5 A: Dark brown color. Just about a finger of frothy tan head. Retention is average at best and a short ring of lacing is left.
3.5 S: Dry grainy roastiness. Semisweet chocolate with notes of caramel and molasses. Maybe a touch of prune as well.
3.5 T: Drier than the nose and graininer too. Less chocolate and molasses as well. Caramel’s still there with a light pruny fruitiness. Clean.
3.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Could be creamier as it lays heavy on the tongue.
3.5 D: Tasty, easy drinking beer. Nothing special though.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MoritzF (7342) - Bochum, GERMANY - APR 30, 2012
(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Toasty malty aroma with notes of caramel/toffee, hazelnuts, chocolate and subtle fruity notes in the background. Mildly sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Choco-malty taste with hints of caramel, burnt notes and a very subtle dark fruity touch; dry-ish bitter-sweet finish with notes of chocolate. Pleasant. 13.IV.12
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Davros (1018) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 29, 2012
Pours very dark brown with a small head.
Nose shows caramel, toffee, diacetyl and soft roasted malt.
Similar flavours, more roasted presence but still showing some caramel and diacetyl. A bit plain in terms of roasted character.
Could use less carbonation.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mile (1445) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 29, 2012
Bottle. Dark brown, small and fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty and sugary sweetish and aroma, some caramel and light roasted malt and light chocolate. Body is light to medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light roasted. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, some caramel and some roasted malt, light hoppyness. "Porter" - anyway, could use more roastines and hoppyness instead of caramel.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3381) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 24, 2012
So far this brewer has failed to impress me. +++ Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured almost black with a medium sized soapy tan head that faded quickly and left decent lacing. The aroma was faint tangy and bitter dark fruits and toffee with a hint of vanilla. The flavor was bitter, tart and tangy with faint dry malts and hints of dark fruits, bread and toffee. Long tart and tangy bread and dark fruit finish. Medium body. Eh.

Bottle from batemans brewery. Quite nice, a bit chocolatey for a ruby ale but that’s fine with me.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorgeLee (324) - Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 17, 2012
Bottle from Morrisons. Dark flattish looking beer with a hint of ruby. Taste is primarily malty, some fruit cake, some dark chocolate. More dry and a bit bitter than sweet. Nice.

Batemans Dark Lord: 1st review of that beer: 2nd half is of the US labelled one. Lets see if the beer is the same or if my taste buds have changed.
Brown 500ml bottle, best before Feb 2008, drank March 2007.
Poured into a Gordon’s Finest Gold Thistle glass (twice).
A very dark ruby red, deep mahogany wood coloured body with a good light brown foaming head, very impressive, pity the head dispersed so quickly.
The aroma has a plum pudding and spicey scent to it, burnt malts and coffee too.
Wintery flavours of spices and dried fruits for a Christmas cake, but without the sweetness, burnt caramel also in the mix.
All the mentioned flavours in the taste are also within the aftertaste and mouthfeel, it is a tad watery for a 5.0% beer, but that is my only negative comment on this beer.
Very, very drinkable, a fine strong dark mild, one I will have again and again.
New review 12 July 2011: Mr George’s Ruby Porter: best before date of the 500ml bottle being 31 Jul 2011. The bottle rear label has all the usual US import information, this bottle however never made it over the pond!
Poured into a UK pint sleeve, lovely dark and the same as the original review, the head staying longer this time around.
Roasted/toasted malts and coffee smells, hints of spices too.
Easy drinking winter brew, well worth finding whatever name it appears under.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jessop (124) - AUSTRALIA - APR 1, 2012
Poured lovely dark ruby with a beautiful creamy yellowy head. The aroma is superb with spicy rich fruity notes. The flavour profile is malty, spicy with dark fruits and a lingering bitterness, and the mouthfeel is very pleasant indeed.
