4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, - MAY 13, 2004
UPDATED: JUL 28, 2011 July, 2002Canterbury Beer Festival. 2002 I was knocked out by the roasty, nutty yet juicily fruity flavour. [3.2]
June, 2003 Cask. The Edmund Halley, Lee Gate, London. 2003. Served cold. The temperature has robbed this mild of much of its delicate flavour. Gradually a bramble flavour starts to emerge and a sulphur and oak aroma rises from the black body. Nettles join the brambles to present an edge of woodland atmosphere. Much patient warming reveals a wild and woody mild. [3.4]
May, 2004 JDW Rochester. One of those times when the beer was served in such perfect condition that it leaps ahead of previous ratings. Full soft texture. Red berry fruit first, then the roasty notes. Finishes with wild nettles. Spanking. [4.1]
July, 2011 Pelton Arms, Greenwich - Squeeze warm up gig. With Piers and Roger. Fucking glorious. Good drinkable stuff. Plenty of nutty flavour, good body. Lovely thirst-quenching stuff with flavour. And at 3%, you can drink it all night. There should be more beers like this. [4.5]
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012
Aug 2006 from BA: This review is from a pint had at the 30th CAMRA, Cotswold Beer Fest (last month).
The dark, almost porter black colour is only the start of your journey to Mild perfection. It’s creamy off-white head should be thick and if poured correctly, stay until the end of the pint, sticking to the glass.
Some Milds are thin and taste weak, Bateman’s is the opposite, rich and strong tasting, the ABV does not give a true picture of it’s complexity or character.
Roasted nuts, ripe fruit and hops hit your nose and the taste is of the same intensity. This is a dark Mild that is well worth tracking down and drinking!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 prawlie (563) - Berkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2011
Half pint at the Twickenham Beer Festival 2011. Black with little, but creamy brown head. Fruity, pleasant aroma. Very nice and fruity, though not a classic mild. Very nice for a weakling strength beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 5, 2011
First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 1993. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull ruby black in colour with a thin tan coloured head. Strong roast malt, and expresso coffee notes in the long aroma. Thin but delicious mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give sweet toffee, bitter chocolate and roast grain notes. Slight dry note of liquorice in the aftertaste along with dry bitter resins from the hops. Sweet treacle toffee note evident in the finish. This is a cracking session mild which is packed full of flavour and tastes more like a high end of 4% instead of 3%. Highly recommended.
