Originating in Einbeck, Germany, the Bavarian pronunciation of the now world famous town is ’billy goat’! Maltier, stronger and darker than you dare! Think Bavaria, clinking steins and merriment as the perfect accompaniment to this homage to Dopplebock!

Very malty brown beer, with very little carbonation. Doesn’t taste of much apart from malt. Disappointing .

One of the few beers I actually don’t like, taste and smell is just too meaty.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Clear dark brown beer thin beige head. Sweet banana, and malty aroma. Taste has slight sweetness and hops on the finish. Not sure how much like a Bock it is, but I liked it.

imdownthepub (9636) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 17, 2014
Bottled, 500ml from Sainsbury’s in Banbury. Chestnut brown with off white head. There is a pleasing maltiness to this giving a middling roastiness on tha palate, fairly sweet and fruity, ripe plum and a hint of Slivovice in the flavour. Quite smooth despite the alcohol note. Good.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s, Team Valley. This is a rich copper coloured beer with a malty and burnt toffee flavour, slight chocolate notes and red fruit and roasted notes on the finish.

Bottle - Ruby (Reddish Brown) in colour. Malty; toasty/roasty malts, toffee, slight hint of chocolate; barley and wheat. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins, apple. Hoppy; grassy hops. Smooth. Sweet malty fruity throughout with hint of sour fruit; increasingly dry into the finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle, it’s a Bock not a Doppelbock, but Batemans has changed the promo text, it’s also top-fermented so is old northern style Bock not Bavarian style. A tad sweeter than I like, but well within the sweetness range of German Bocks. Nice texture, I especially like the light smokiness and chocolate. The finish has faint lemon and pepper notes.

Beese (1099) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 30, 2014
Bottle from Sainsburys, Watford. Poured a clear chestnut colour with an off white head, which dissipated rather rapidly. Aroma of caramel, grass and boiled sweets. Initial flavours were quite sweet with some brown sugar, chewy malt and grain. Finish was slightly odd; rather herbal with notes of aniseed and toffee. Missed the mark somewhat, methinks...
