3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (2356) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 17, 2012
Pint taken at the Brewery Visitor Centre in Wainfleet on 4th Sep 2010. The abreviation means ’Good Honest Ale’, which has been the Batemans logo for years.
Pours a lovely golden straw colour with a small but complete white head.
The East Coast Goldings and Challenger hops give the beer a fine spicey hop aroma and add bitterness into the taste which become more pronounced as the mouth dries. Mild citrus feel to the initial sips, before the hops take over.
Well balanced and pleasant to drink.

Cask (handpump) at the Great British Beer Festival Day 2, August 2009. More light amber than gold in colour. A hint of diacetyl in the aroma. Fairly dry. Mainly malty, like most Batemans beers, even when they are trying to make a Golden Ale. And like most Batemans beers I found it palatable but conservative and unadventurous. GHA here stands for "Good Honest Ales" which I guess is one way of looking at it. I note that others have found it rather more vibrant so I wonder about the condition here. It must have gone down well enough with plenty of drinkers as it has subsequently been added to the permanent range.
