500ml bottle shared with mr_h. Dark reddish chestnut brown, reasonable head. Dry grain chocolate malt aroma. Very chocolatey malt flavour. Sickly sweet aftertaste. Tastes like alcoholic cheap chocolate.

500ml brown bottle from Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s do have interesting beers in their range. This is a nice idea, though, given that chocolate and coffee flavours can be naturally imparted by the malt, why add those ingredients to the beer. Feels like a gimmick - though a number of brewers like to do it. But it’s like buying a rose that has been sprayed with rose perfume. Anyway, this is a drinkable beer with chocolate and coffee flavours. There you go - what a surprise. It’s a bit cloying and funny enough the flavours taste artificial. Drinkable, but not impressive.

On tap @ Setka Pub, Poznan, Poland. Pours cloudy dark copper brown with small light tan head. Clear aroma of coffee and sugar with notes of chocolate. Sourish and bitter taste of coffee with touches of caramel and dark chocolate. Sourish aftertaste. Nearly no carbonation at all. More interesting than good but drinkable.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s in South Ruislip. A dark brown/ruby coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Rich sweet, chocolate, mocha aroma. Tastes of coffee and rich mocha chocolate. Prefer it on cask but still a decent drop.

garthicus (2664) - Dublin, IRELAND - JUN 20, 2013
Appearance: looks like a glass of cola, same colour, lots of visible bubbles clinging to the glass, tiny thin brown head. Aroma: Can smell it from an arms length, rich mocha, chocolate, milky, lots of coffee, malty, liqouice, leather and spices. Lovely. Flavour: chocolate again, quite like chocolate milk infused with a nice peppery coffee, herbal, a little dark fruit and a long mocha finish. Absolutely delicious.

Bottle via Half Time. Not much nose. Pretty much Young’s Double Chocolate Stout with a nice second half blonde roast coffee. Mini-mer-mer.

Bottle. Pours brown to form a black beer with a ring of foam. Smells like chocolate syrup, reminding me of Samuel Smiths’ Chocolate Stout, which I’m not the biggest fan of. Mocha taste, as described. Coffee and chocolate, spice, sweet, slightly sharp and yeasty finish. Taste is better than the smell suggested it would be, but it’s still not blown me away.
