stravale (2035) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - APR 25, 2013
Bottle from Sainsburyís [230413]
Dark chestnut brown, tan frothy head that dissipates to a thin froth, little lacing, cola-like appearance
Aroma - sweet dark chocolate syrup, soft instant coffee, sweet dark malts, slightly artificial but itís fine, not complex
Taste as aroma, getting some Batemanís yeast in there, touch of minerals, soft instant coffee, and chocolate syrup again...yeah the coffee and chocolate doesnít taste high quality but itís ok overall
Palate - Moderate carb, thin to medium body, fairly smooth texture, but is over carbonated. Finish as main flavour, soft coffee and chocolate linger
Overall - The cask was better at Spoonís and was smoother, seemed to have more body too. Despite the bit artificial coffee and chocolate itís one of their best beers.

ALLOVATE (2333) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 17, 2013
Pretty much dead on arrival. Even after a violent effort to get it to foam it still remained lifeless in the glass. Darkest ruby in colour and shimmering in the lights. Smooth, rich, cocoa butter and nutty Belgian chocolate on the nose with a hint of marzipan, rum and raisin and roasted cacao beans. Flat, gammy and soppy feel to the palate with a slick, over tempered chocolate feel to the finish that is not too pleasant. Mild, roasted malt bitterness breaks up the slick cocoa butter and soft Belgian choc notes. A hint of cola cordial lingers long amongst dark wood and roasted nuts. Just does not do a thing for me. kerolasa (409) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 12, 2013
The color is dark as one could expect stout style beer being, and same typical way head is quite short mildly brown and disappears quickly. Taste is quite rough, bit sweet, and has charcoal. Soon chocolate kicks, and aroma turns lighter. This may be one of the very best supermarket beers Iíve ever had.

500ml bottle. Pours dark, like Coca-Cola with very little head. Aroma is malted chocolate. Taste is mainly malt and chocolate. Very little coffee. Slight floral, perfumey hint. Ends very slightly bitter but more or less the same all the way through. Not bad but not great either. Slightly disappointed.

Bottled 16/03/13. Edges towards black with a purple hue. Headless. Silky chocolate in the nose with hints of coffee only. Same in the mouth. Mocha for sure with chocolate dominating. A bit too sweet really but good for Batemans.

Davros (1859) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 14, 2013
Pours very dark brown with a lasting head. Prominent chocolate syrup in the aroma, along with soft toasty and roasted malt and a little coffee. Chocolate is first up as a flavour as well, followed by plain roasted malt and hot alcohol. Nice creamy low carbonation.

BBB63 (5941) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAR 13, 2013
Bottle and served in snifter: pours mahogany hued with ruby highlights, small fading fizzy beige head and minimal lace. The aroma is all about the milk chocolate and dark chocolate character, very faint notes of coffee, roast, earthy tobacco and plum esters. The taste is borderline cloy and sweet but just enough twang to cut it down a bit. Just like the nose, the palate detects a touch of dark fruit and tobacco like earthiness. The mouth feel is surprising lighter than expected, not sugary syrupy as I feared. The touch oily and nutty dry. It is okay and at least you get the flavor your would want if you opened this. (Strong Ale? Okay sure it is)

Aroma is chocolate, light coffee and has a slight cola quality. The flavor is chocolate, a background of coffee and a very acidic/mildly tart finish.
