This is my best ever bottled beer. Batemans, Mocha Beer 6.0% ABV, 50cl ***** The amber-coloured beer has a powerful aroma of coffee and chocolate/cocoa, underscored by a peppery hop note. In the mouth coffee and chocolate coat the tongue but thereís a powerful hop balance from the Goldings and a rich malt loaf character. The finish is dry with a continuing coffee and chocolate note but bitter hops build alongside the malt. This is a complex beer and is wonderfully refreshing. Adding unusual ingredients to conventional malt and hops is not always a success but it works brilliantly with this beer. Itís available from larger Sainsburyís at 3 for £4, until 3rd Oct 2012 normal price £2.49 each

A dark beer with a brownish head. An excellent coffee aroma and then a strong (but not overpowering) flavour of coffee and chocolate thatís surprisingly light. By far the best of the Sainsburyís British Beer Hunt that Iíve tried so far.

Pours a two finger khaki head that fades quickly leaving a good lace. Clear mahogany color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Chocolate and coffee nose and flavor follows - sweet chocolate with coffee in the background. $6.30 for a 500ml bottle from Tullyís Beer and Wine Wells, ME.

Bought from Maidstone Sainsburys. Strong mocha aroma. Pours clean, head dissipates quickly. Taste of coffee, high cocoa chocolate, hint of tobacco like you get in good coffees. Not over-powering. Very moreish. Masks its 6% ABV. Delightful.

Dark brown almost black with a tan, disappearing, light lacy head. Super strong smell of coco. If you buy coco powder it has a similar smell. Not so much hot chocolate but coco. Coffee , malt and roast. Medium to thin body with soft carbonation. First is a taste of chocolate but not as sweet as a candy bar. More like dark chocolate with roast and some coffee elements. The finish is nice with hops making a nice balance. Itís really delicious. Defiantly a chocolate delight.

Bottle from Sainsburys at Claypotts near Dundee. Pours black with a creamy white head. Smells of chocolate with a slight coffee bean. Tastes of dark chocolate and more chocolate! I love this beer.

Always a bit dubious of these ínovelty beersí but thought Iíd give it a go. Light tan head which quickly dissipates to leave a thin lacing. Aroma is coffee, not surprising as its infused with Arabica coffee. The chocolate is very apparent from the first taste. Good balance between hops and malts. Probably a good beer to introduce someone not used to darker ales. One I would buy again. The wife liked it as well, and sheís not really a beer fan.

Bottle from M&S. Black with residual head. Aroma is very much coffee. The taste is of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts in the background. The palate is medium bodied and carbonated. This is a unique tasting beer, being predominantly coffee but not overpowering. A very good beer to try, even if only once in your life.

Batemans mocha encompasses some of my favourite aspects of beer; Dark stouts, potters and speciality beers. More importantly for this beer is the overall chocolate taste, itís excellent, especially if served at the right temperature. I sometime find that some chocolate beers tend not to be that flavoursome but not this one. Batemans is one of my favourite breweries and I donít think Iím bias in saying that theyíve really outdone themselves on this one. The only downside I can think of is that if you donít like specialty, flavoured or dark beer then this is not for you. Otherwise itís great.

Appearance: looks like a glass of cola, same colour, lots of visible bubbles clinging to the glass, tiny thin brown head. Aroma: Can smell it from an arms length, rich mocha, chocolate, milky, lots of coffee, malty, liqouice, leather and spices. Lovely. Flavour: chocolate again, quite like chocolate milk infused with a nice peppery coffee, herbal, a little dark fruit and a long mocha finish. Absolutely delicious.
