16.9oz bottle pours a dull clear deep copper with weak sort of dark tan head. The aroma offers up small wickets of caramel candy, caramel malts, a bit of brown sugar covered cherries, red apples and earthy fig notes. The taste has a fairly thin body that unwraps notes of sweet caramel malts, a bit of chocolate malts and then rolling into a pleasing malty to dark fruity estery earthiness. It ends with the addition of a faint roasted maltiness and mineral water notes. Pretty nice.

500 ml bottle sampled in 2009. Clear amber body with a small beige head. Aroma is more than less caramel malt alone. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel and bitterness with a hint of fruit. Medium body and short aftertaste. A one-dimensional beer.

Aroma is heavy malts and medium sweetness. The flavor is sweetish malts, mild nuttiness and a mix of tart fruit and slight sourness in the finish.

Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours reddish brown with a modest beige head and a toasted malt aroma. There is a strange smoked malt and red fruit flavor with some spices and a slightly bitter finish.

Dark brown with small white head. Reminds me of under-ripe fruit, plums? Hints of burnt toast. Very faint spice, aniseed. Bitter aftertaste. Nothing Christmassy about this although maybe the fact I am drinking this in February is part of the reason. Got it for £1 in Morrisons today. I’m glad I didn’t pay more for it. Poor!!!

Yeasty, with light fruit. Very thin in mouthfeel, but that's what would be expected of this style of English ale. Altogether, a tasty ale for the holiday season - no bells & whistles, just a good, round ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pour is a dark tan with no head. Aroma is some earthy malts and dark fruit. Flavor is some sweet malt and again a dark fruit is there. This seemed really flat and lifeless. Thank you dear wife for the Christmas present. It’s a nice bottle.

Pretty well hopped to be a Christmas beer, but it works. Creamy malty with a nice balance.

I am drinking this as I am playing trivial pursuit on Christmas Day. Perfect for this situation. Dark brown. Tastes ok. You don't have to think about it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

rich with golden raisin and scratchy bodied malt and some peat. sweet with caramel which gives a light roast and gravy master body and taste. finishes in the raisin with a dash of hop. golden with a bit of amber and white lacy head that lasts.
