Yeasty, with light fruit. Very thin in mouthfeel, but that's what would be expected of this style of English ale. Altogether, a tasty ale for the holiday season - no bells & whistles, just a good, round ale.

Bottle, deep red-brown with a beige head and a fruity, spicy and faintly winey nose. Dry and roasted-fruity body, then spicy bitter notes coming through. Wintery and more-ish.

A Christmas present from 2012, consumed Christmas Eve 2013, BBE 31 October 2013. I’m not sure when it was 5% or an Old Ale, to me an ordinary 4.7% English bitter with an unbalanced hop melee. Nothing memorable here, just another beer living on past glories.

Bottle (4.7% ABV, Maris Otter, Crystal and Wheat with just Golding hops) and served in nonic Imperial pint glass: Pours a nice coppery hue with a fading head and not much lace. Suppose to be an Olde Ale but really just a ever so slightly beefed up ordinary bitter. Nice EKG character, apple berry undertone and biscuity Maris Otter but the Crystal malt is sort of flabby and obtrusive. Bought it ’cause of the name honestly... not expecting much and still did not get what I expected which was an old ale which this is NOT!!!

Pours a nice chestnut out of the bottle. Malty smell with some spices. Tastes of spices with a wanting sense.

Dark copper with a small bubbly head. Has a small sweet winter fruit aroma and taste but its relatively smooth texture is its most pleasant aspect.

16.09 ounce bottle. Copper colored with a brief beige head that disappears immediately. Baked apple and caramel malt nose. Crisp tangy toasted malt flavor upfront. Bready malt undertones. Faint floral hops in finish. Rather average.

500ml bottle from Morrisons.
Thin off white head disappears quickly, no lacing. Body is dark ruby amber. Nose is caramel, berries. Flavour of Christmas cake and marzipan, berries and apple. Mouthfeel is quite thin, low carbonation. Decent enough job of getting the festive flavours across.

Better than their ’Christmas Eve’ offering but nothing special. Sweet, fruity and lightly hopped.
