UPDATED: MAY 11, 2009 Dec, 2002: JDW, Rochester. Awesome up front flavours which fade in the finish leaving a pleasant sugary sultana note which doesn’t linger long enough. Brilliant beer with a poor finish. [3.6]
Jan 2009 Prospect of Whitby, London A good, hop soaked malty premium bitter. Great balance. Good flavour - this is a lovely British beer - the sort of thing we do well. There;s nothing distracting about it - it’s just a decent drinking beer packed with flavour. [3.8]

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear, vibrant copper-red with a tight, yellow-white foam cap. Aroma is fairly weak but does have some ripe fruits. Flavor is medium sweet, with thick dough and ripe, Christmas fruits. There is some yeast and grape. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Quite chewy. Lightly sticky finish, some toasted sugars, dough, berries and grapes. Not bad, but pretty average stuff.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 5, 2011
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in December 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear red amber in colour with a thick white creamy head. Slight caramel and xmas spices in the short nose. Thin but pleasant mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a maltloaf base laced with syrupy dates, pomegranate fruit and burnt toffee. Spicy hop resins compliment the complex malts well for a dry aftertaste. Sweet toffee note in the finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3490) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JUL 3, 2010
Deep brown and amber coloured body with a dense tan head. Aroma of funk, basement, nuts, caramel and roasted malt. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasty flavours with a lot of sweetness, a touch of spice and a good overtone of murky, dry flavours. Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity, some alcohol, vanilla, oak and perhaps even a touch of spice in the mix. Overall, a nice beer - definitely worth trying if you can find it - especially on draught. I sampled this beer on draught at The Sussex in London (Leicester Square - W1?), England on 13-December-2008.
