I have very fond memories of this stuff. A true British porter; somewhat lighter in body than American porters by and large. Another one I wish I could still buy around here.

Cask conditioned, at Batemans Visitor Centre. Dark ruby red, almost black colour, orange/beige head and good condition. Excellent licorice and roasted barley aromas, sweet and licoricy in the mouth with slight phenolic notes and a developing dry roasted bitterness in the finish.

Cask at the Swan in the Rushes, Loughborough. Very dark red colour, with a creamy tan head. Malty aroma, roast malts and coffee in the taste. Very smooth and drinkable. Very good.

Very respectable and enjoyable. Great aroma, toffee, port-like, slightly musty, and like fruit cake. The flavor is like a chewy candy, helping to overcome the innate simplicity of the palate. A lack of complexity is the primary fault here. (gravity cask, 2003 Chelmsford Beer Festival)

Cask conditioned at The Rover, Göteborg, Sweden. Dark color. Light body for being a porter but very tasty with notes of licorice and juniper berry.
