2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Mungo (2472) - Southampton, - JUN 23, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2006 Mar 06 Cask conditioned @ Humble Plumb, Soton. Some sulphury yeast to start. Some fairly malt flavours start it off the finishes with a reasonable dose of bitter hops in the finish but doesnt work for me. 2.7
Jun 05 Cask conditioned @ Giddy Bridge (JDW), Soton. Golden colour. Some malt and herbal hops. Most noticeable character is a grainy husky bitterness almost akin to excessive use of crystal malt (but surely not in a beer this light). The beer is too light to hide this flaw. 2.1
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
From BA: May 2006. Long time fan of this beer, but never reviewed it until now for some reason.
The review is from a tasting at the bi-annual beer festival at the Bateman’s brewery. They put on 5 cask beers of their own and have another 15 barrels from small brewers also available to drink.
Hand-pulled in the base of their famous windmill, my pint glass looked beautiful, a light amber, golden beer, this was clear and had a good off-white head sat on top.
The Styrian and Challenger hops give it a good hoppy aroma and the taste is crisp, sharp and refreashing.
The flavours stay in the mouth, with bitterness coming through towards the end.
A great beer, from a good brewery.

Cask Conditioned at The Angel & Crown, London Hazy golden color. Light aroma, hoppy, a bit citrusy and grassy. Malt flavor; the mouthfeel is dry, also because of the very strong bitterness; the hops are a bit citrusy and resiny and grassy. Pleasant, even if not very complex.

Cask in the state bar. Aroma is slightly rubbery sulphurus note. Taste is more of a chemically plastic note, no hops quite sweet, bad nick and a bad beer to start with it seems.
