This beer is from the Batemans 30 year old Barley Wine recipe and the flavour has been matched with bottles which had been left undiscovered for 31 years only to be found in 2007. The 2012 Vintage was brewed with barleys from a set of unique growing conditions including a prolonged dry period followed by very wet weather, producing grains which impart crisp, dry, rich flavours. It is packed full of succulent malt and after maturing in oak, has flavours of plums, port, malt, brandy, vanilla and almonds

Tasted in excellent company. Nutty caramel colours with a thick collar of white head. Surprisingly bright mahogany. The aroma here is an absolute star - nuts, strawberries... malt and yeast are the stars and this beer does well for its complexity. There’s sweetness and banana prevalent and this translates into flavour. What a treat. It’s got beautiful length and character and drinks like a young beer, considering it has two years on the clock. Probably a truly memorable representative of the Bateman’s character., it drinks quite freshly for a 2013 vintage that has done well for being well looked after.

Clear, dark amber. Unstable, airy, offwhite head. Aroma has sweet berries, dried fruit but also metallic notes. Malty, caramelly flavour, cherries and plums. Hops in the finish together with metallic and slightly boozy notes.

from Au Grain d’Orge, Crissier - dark red-amber beer with a poor head retention; aroma of vanilla and caramel; full-bodied, light umami, some sweetness lasting in the finish, more caramel and notes of hazelnut

Bottle from Malt Traders 061214. Quite a boozy beer this one. Lots of plum and dried fruit in both aroma and flavour.

Bottle. A clear, amber colored beer topped by a dense, beige head of moderate size. There’s maltyness dominating the aroma, with caramel and toffee, some higher alcohols and a fruity touch. Bready hints. The flavor has coffee hints, with bread and toffee. Warming alcohol and a decent bitterness. Full body and a soft carbonation level. Lasting finish. Way to malty this one, but sure drinkable. Not impressive in any way. 141228

Bottle. 7.5%. 2013 release. Bottle no. 003285. Best before 2037. Pours a clear, golden amber with a diminishing light tan head. No lacing. Sweetish aroma with a white wine-likeness, with fruit and a candy-like note at first. As it warms, it develops notes of raisin and plum, and the white wine note turns into port wine. Flavour is fat and fruity. Light plastic note at first, but disappears as it warms. Fruity finish, bit of alcohol. Lingering dry note with grassy and light apple notes. Port note as it warms. Slightly oily palate. Overall okay, but nothing special really. Aroma is better than the flavour. 14.12.14.

2013 bottle, deep brown with a fast-settling head, aromas of toffee and dark dried fruit, initial bitter edge gives way to malty caramel sweetness with more dried fruit and a hint of Port, the hoppy bitterness then returning. Finish is an unusual mix of slightly cloying sweetness with a dry earthy and spicy bitterness.

Clear deep amber - brown beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry with a mild crispness. Light malts, trace of toffee - caramel and light dry malt cream. Mellow dried fruits and floral things. Light crisp finish. Comes over light a mellow ESB.
