COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - JDW Spring festival, 2010.
Hops: Styrian Goldings
An unusual beer, flavoured with dried elderflowers, last brewed in 1996. It’s been made available again especially for the Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It is a light, refreshing beer, with a hint of honeysuckle in the aroma and a delicate finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Montagu Pyke (JDW), London 9/04/10. Golden in colour with a slight white head. Light, floral aroma with some sweet malts. Flavour of Batemans’ yeasts, a hint of elderflower with a moderately bitter finish. Easy, pleasant drinking.

Pint, taken at my local Wetherspoon’s pub during the 2010 Spring beer fest. Light bodied beer in colour, a small white head tried to sit on top, it soon fell to a wisp and collar. This beer was last brewed in 1996 and was resurrected for this festival, glad it was. Styrian Goldings give it an unusual aroma, as dried elderflowers are added during the brew, this blend produces a strange flowery feel (they suggest Honeysuckle). Very refreshing and certainly different, not what I’d normally go for, but interesting and worth having again.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 5, 2011
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in April 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear amber in colour with a thin white head. Slight chemical hint of sulphur in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Slight fruit noted in the pale malt component with gooseberry and kiwi noted. Aromatic floral hops in the dusty bitter aftertaste. Weak and watery finish has a bitter sweet component but struggles and you are left totally underwhelmed. An ok session ale but still another poor effort from this top brewery.

7th April 2010. Pale amber beer. Light palate and a little dry. Some timid hop and even malt. Just a touch of elderflower. Good idea but coulda shoulda been better than this.

Cask Handpump at the Penny Black JDW, Northwich 27/04/2010 Floral slightly sulphurous aroma. White head. Golden coloured smooth on the palate and hoppy with a hint of dryness and pale malt in the finish.

Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford, after the conclusion of the Spoons Real Ale Festival ’10. Copper with a white head. Slight sulphur in the aroma with some vegetal sweetness. Sourness in the taste with the sweet malt. Mid bitter finish. I found this inoffensive. Even acceptable.

wheresthepath (1083) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2010
[Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading] Rich, attractive brassy gold with a moderate white head. Floral hints, light bitterness, dry finish. Feels very timid indeed.

Hand pulled cask at The Moon and Sixpence (JDW) Hatch End. Pale hazy gold with a weak white head. Elderflowers and pear drops mask a dull unimaginative back bone. Pretty much what I expected!

Cask, handpump at The Penny Black, Bicester, Oxon, 18-04-10 Well this is almost a ’right bag o’ shite’. Pours amber in colour, small white head, its a bit tired. The nose was ok until the cat’s piss came through, which is fairy consistent of Elderflower that isn’t fresh, but to be fair it does say dried elderflower, don’t get the honeysuckle, nah’ not my thing. Cask @ Counting House, JDW. Golden colour, small white bubbly head. Aroma of butter and hint of elderflower. Flavour of sweet caramel malts, butter, biscuit. Sweet, sticky finish. Probably not in the best condition.
