Daredevil (77), Bern, Switzerland Nov 22, 2007 this is my first ale on this trip to England .... and it will be an experience hard to beat ....
the smell of starfruit and ginger cookies, taste of roast chicken on toast, and a very pleasantly bitter aftertaste make this brew a very interesting and well crafted one .... definitely one of 500 beers to drink before you die .... jerkadilly74 (155), mooresville, Indiana, USA Mar 8, 2004 A fine brew in the style of the brits. Poured a medium white head. Nearly filled my room with it's hoppy aroma. Very crisp, smooth and easy to drink. Had a finish that reminded me of coffee. In the states you may find this under the name Batemans xxxb Ale. Try it!!! KiwiKid2199 (6), USA does not count Mar 16, 2002 I would recomend this one, this has just the right amount of hops and malt, a very good english bitter Poperinge (351), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada Sep 28, 2007 Updated: Oct 6, 2007Page 41 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide. Maltly, nutty and a fuck of allot of hops by British standards and I loved this beer. Only 177 of MJ’s 500 Classic Brews to go. highlandlad (1200), Sydney, Australia Jan 15, 2005 A champion bitter - five times Premium Ale of Britain at CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival. It’s a plummy, teak colour with a moderate head. Promising aroma: licorice, nuts and malt. Smells stronger than its 4.8% abv. Palte is full and creamy. Big malty, nutty flavours at the start with some spicy sweetness in the middle (Juicy Fruit gum?) and a satisfying bitterness in the clean finish. Complex and satisfying.
