3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the White Swan, Solihull. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a frothy white head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is stale malt and weak hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a watery hop bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation. A nice smooth creamy session bitter.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
(Cask): Clear amber with an off white head. Aroma of sweet malt, tart fruit, caramel. Similar notes in tasting. Very sweet, overly so. Struggled to finish a pint due to it being so sickly sweet.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask @ Babelas, Leicester. Chestnut colour, largish off white head. Slight floral hop aroma. Taste is malty, roasty. Look it's fine OK, honestly, FINE. I'd drink it all night but only if there wasn't anything better/more intersting around.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask @ JDW Elgin
Copper amber, dense white head, clear, good lacing
Aroma - soft caramel malts, slight soft berry fruits, touch of bread, smooth caramel
Taste or caramel malt, touch of roasted malt, bit mineraly, soft spicy hops, some red berries, getting that Batemanís yeast, this is quite decent, better than than bottle
Pakate - Medium body, little oily, smooth caramel. Finish quite dry, quite bitter finish, soft fruity caramel, dab of yeast
Overall - This is one of the best Batemanís Iíve had...better than the bottled version

Gravicask (PBBF2012, Fri)
Toffee aroma. Full palate, smooth and sweet. Fullish malty taste. Sugars dominate the grainier aspects, alas. Not as good as when it was stronger.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber coloured typical best bitter leaning towards the malty and sticky end of the beer spectrum. Not particularly distinctive but quite pleasant. Wouldnít turn down another but equally wouldnít seek it out.

Aug 2006 (from BA): One of my all time favourite beers. I have been drinking this beer for many years and when ever I see it on draught, I have some. Morrisonís and sometimes Aldi (in the UK) stock it in bottles, but it does not hold a candle to the cask conditioned draught.
This review is from my last tasting, at the 30th Cotswold CAMRA Beer Fest, straight from the barrel which was inside a 15th Century Tithe Barn. The location of this fest is just great, you canít help but enjoy the scene and beers on offer.
Dark Amber, copper coloured, with a fine white head which stays for a long time within the glass, it looks the part.
Fruity, both in aroma and taste, the brewer got everything right in my opinion, and they havenít messed around with the brew since it was first introduced (whenever that was?).
This is a classic British beer, and long my it be so.
