Previously known as Barnstormer.

Rich in fruit with hints of chocolate, we’ve made Barnsey a full-bodied dark ale that is both complex and deeply satisfying.
Barnsey is a truly rewarding and enjoyable beer, carefully brewed using a mix of Maris Otter, Chocolate and Crystal malts together with Bramling Cross hops. Barnsey contains wheat and barley malt.

See: Dark Mahogany
Smell: Smokey, butterscotch, oaky

Bottle. Appearance - close to opaque black but with some red chinks. Off white almost fawn head. Nose - toffee and biscuits. Taste - more toffee than biscuits. Was hoping for some malt or hop bitterness on the finish. Some hazelnuts in there too. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture and a finish that could be fresher. Overall - a solid bitter but as mentioned earlier it could do with more bitterness on the finish.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma is sweet butterscotch, some dark fruit and a touch metallic. Taste is less sweet than the aroma, some caramel and butterscotch, dark and dried fruits, touch of metallic bitterness. Interesting, and not bad.

Cask at The Court Inn, Durham, £3.65/pint. Pours dark, ruby brown with a smooth, creamy head. The nose is malty sweet and biscuity but also has a strange nail polish-esque quality. The taste is reasonably bitter and crisp with lightly smoky shortbread, toffee, bread and treacle flavours. A little pedestrian.

Appearance- very dark brown, with a Ruby tinge. Not much head at all. Aroma- malts, caramel, brown bread, hint of dark fruit, milk chocolate. Taste- quite chocolatey and a bit roasty, dark malts, blackberries, fruitcake, sweet caramel undertones, some fruitiness, smooth mouthfeel with a short, bitter finish. Solid stuff.

Pours a clear, dark brown/red with short lasting tan head that is easily roused back into existence with a light swirl. Grain, caramel, honey, and toasty malt in the aroma. Flavours bring toast, molasses, and a lightly balanced bitterness. Full bodied with medium carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel.

Gravity cask at the Lady Lane Wharf beer festival, June 2015. Poured a dark brown colour with a thin whispy white head. The aroma is sweet malt, treacle toffee. The flavour is moderate bitter with a light sweet butterscotch, woody resin hop palate. Moderate to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Dark reddish brown, clear. Medium tan head. Lots of roasted malt aroma and candied red fruits, with a little cocoa. Medium-full body, slightly oily., bitter, mineral finish with rather a lot of acid. Bittersweet.

Dark ruby brown, no head. Aroma is sweet, malty, and roasted. Taste is of roasted nuts and a bit of coffee, ending in that lovely flat minerally taste/feel that is so typical of a very good British ale.
