"This is a specially crafted rum porter. Rich, dark and warming, it is perfect for those cold evenings. Hints of rum mingle with coffee and vanilla flavours, a truly wonderful old style beer."
Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, wheat malt. Challenger and Bramling Cross hops.

Small, dwindling beige head over dark brown beer. Chocolate and caramelmalt, even toffee, quite aromatic nose, with a point of British hops in the finish. Dry combination of bitter chocolate, coffee dregs and cigarette ash (this description should turn off the most hardy, yet it is true, and it’s quite nice - the beer, not the description) in the taste. Just a fleeting hint of malty sweetness, bit quite some stout-like acidity. I can find some liquorice, but I’m struggling with the notion of saltiness (not my forte). Dry cookies. Very dry porter, not exactly rich texture. More than decent porter, however not really Christmassy, IMO. Txs, MattW.

<a href=http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/52/520 & Toad Bonfire Festival. Dark, muddy, roasty beer with coffee and blackcurrant flavours. Sort of midway between a stout and a pale ale. Muddled and not really enjoyable, though not actually bad. Served a bit too cold.

Cask@The Market Porter, Borough, london. Great to see a rum porter on cask, this has some nice woody caramel and slightly roasted malt characters, smooth and soft, with subtle notes of rum, i thought this was pretty decent.

Bottle Conditioned. Dark brown with white bubbly head. Rich fruity aroma, then a full flavoured, fruity, smooth and slightly acidic body. Darkly roasted with a little nutty character. Tasty but unfulfilling.

Bottle from Waitrose, Bath. Dark brown, almost opaque with no head. Aroma has fruit, malt, coffee and alcohol. Taste is sweet, liquorice and roasty. Medium to full bodied with a not entirely pleasant oiley mouthfeel.

Sampled cask conditioned. Very dark brown. Fruity aroma with hints of coffee and, yes - rum. Medium body, rather sweet and slighly roasty. rather complex with licorice and salt in the finish.
