COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned. Also available in cask at 4.1%. Ratings for the cask version should be entered under Bath Gem (cask)

A rich aroma of hops and malt develops a full texture in the mouth. It has a long, deep, bitter-sweet finish. Without doubt an exceptional best bitter.

Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt. Challenger and East Kent Goldings hops.

Cask conditioned and bottle conditioned, this complex ale is refreshing, bright and bubbly. Although it pours with little head, it is a pleasing color. Sweet and fruity, the aromas include strawberries, blueberries, apple, peach and bananas, along with coffee malt and hoppy meadow. Lesser notes include green straw, toffee/caramel, yeast and cherry. Taste is also complex with initial hits of malt, hops, apple and strawberry, spice, ginger and caramel. In the middle, the fruity sweetness transitions to a medium bitter hop flavor, with an herbal quality. It finishes smooth, with a return to fruit which lingers. Mouthfeel was right for an EPA, and the modest ABV makes for a good session ale. The bottle has a spiffy modern label, not unlike those trendy boutique wines.

Bottle. Pours a rich, clear amber with a medium, white head. Decent malt aroma, with some caramel and hazelnut. Sweet, with brown sugar, toffee, light bread and caramel, but only faint, earthy bitters. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, with plenty more caramel maltiness, and a bit more hops. I liked this very much.

Wow, this is the best pale bitter I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Orangey color with lots of hops, pleasant aroma...Very little carbonation makes this beer an excellent choice when in the mood for something a little different, great taste, fantastic

Pours a dark copper beer with some off white head that settles into a thin lacing on top. Honey, floral aroma. Sweet, slightly bitter beer. Toffee is in the mix too. Medium carbonation. Smooth and light mouthfeel.

Bottled 2/20/04. Nice Amber color, but quite Hazy. I probably should have been more careful while pouring it. Little head, yet the bubbles were quite large, something I rarely see. Smooth and easy drinking with very little aftertaste. It’s also not very carbonated. I’ll have to agree with Jeff here, it’s the closest of the bottled beers that I’ve had to a cask conditioned beer. Very nice.

Bottled 2/20/04 - Nice clear dark amber body with a small frothy white head. The aroma is a nice mix of very British hops and malts. The flavor is also quie nice, again very British. This is one of the better bottled bitters I have yet had. This for me, comes about as close to a true cask bitter as I have had. Nice smooth mild body. This one could really be downed in quantities.

Virtually no head. Poured like it came right out of the cask. Hence, a wonderful mouthfeel. Very mild in the hops and malt. Just a nice little English Bitter.
