3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ALLOVATE (1705) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - OCT 6, 2011
Cask, handpump @ The Grove, Exmouth, Devon. Nice pub off the beach, nice beer, gigantic seagulls!! Faintly misty in the glass, sunny amber body with a mostly lasting, loose pad of white donning it. Piercing nose reminiscent of damp weeds, camphor, stinging nettles and vine clippings with a hint of lemon and chamomile. The hops hit first in the mouth, bold, very peppery and herbal like dry herbs with the chamomile showing. Moderately bitter, the aroma comes through as it drops off very dry. In fact it is very dry in general. Draws on the saliva making it parching yet extremely refreshing. Just enough citrus in there for flavour, straw-like pale grains across the mid-palate show more and more. The body light, almost delicate and it yielded a slightly spritzy residual carbonation that made it bounce. I like this one, perfect for the Summer that Devon offered up, 4 seasons in one day! Nice stuff.
