A great golden beer with a fresh citrus, hoppy aroma. This wonderful wholesome organic ale has a dry and bitter finish which brings you right back to earth.

White weak head. Pale golden colour. Aroma is hoppy, citrusy with herbal notes. Flavor is hoppy too with light bread and cereals tones, ending in an dry hoppy finish. Light bodied.

Bottle from Waitrose, Morningside
Light amber, slight haze, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma - soft hay malts, hint of spicy hops, not that hoppy - more hay malts, light cereals
Taste - pale sweet malts, soft citrus lemon hops, bit of zest, light grapefruit, some bitter English hops, soft cereals, hay. more hoppy in flavour than aroma
Palate - medium carb, medium body. Finish - dry, some zest, soft citrus, moderate bitter linger, bit of a mineraly metallic linger
Overall - Quite a refreshing golden ale, dryish finish, hops are rather subdued to me, some lemon zest in there. It’s certainly better than average for a golden ale. OK.

500ml Bottle. Aroma is quite lively with zesty fruits, malt and hops. It pours well with a lacy white head and is just a touch lighter than its stable mate Golden Hare. Taste is malty giving way to grapefruit tones with a dry finish. THis is Bath Ales’ organic beer - personally I dont go for all that organic BS usually but I do think this is the best of their bottled range.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2013 Original rating June 2012 - Bottle; clear gold, minimal bubbles, just like Golden Hare in appearance; biscuity malt and a hint of caramel; crisp, hoppy, fairly spicy; dry finish; failed to find any fruit beyond the merest hint of lemon; unmemorable, the Gem and Golden Hare are much preferable. Original score 2.9. Tried again on NYE 2012, again in bottled form; found it much fuller and fruitier and generally moreish; drunk this time alongside a cartload of strong cheddar (which may have helped it, I don’t know); Score 3.7 (have amended overall score to give an average of 3.3).

Clear gold beer. Light semi dry palate. Very light even malt base with a tiny bit of caramel. The hops are also light and impart dashes of orange and lemon and bitterness. Semi dry finish. Touch of minerals.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before 8 Jul 09, drank on sunny Sunday afternoon in April 09. Poured into a pint vase shaped glass. ’Our golden organic pale ale’ is what is written on the front label and that is what was in my glass, a cloudy pale, golden ale. A small white head sat on top, but legged it to a wisp very soon. Aroma was citrus fruits and hops, very pleasant. Dry, bitter and refreshing with the hops coming to the fore over the citrus notes found in the smell. No real depth to the beer, although it does have a presence, the flavours stay longer than the head did and grapefruit/lemon citrus tang is very evident as you sip the beer. Enjoyable and different to other Bath Ales I’ve had, liked them all.

Bottle at the Beer, Bocce and Boozer tasting, London. Pours clear yellow with a fine, white foam head. Great looks. Sugary straw nose. Light to medium sweet flavor, some hay and straw, faint grass, dough. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly dry to finish, sweet and doughy, some hay bitterness, moderate sweetness, light grass and light grain. Nice beer.
