A great golden beer with a fresh citrus, hoppy aroma. This wonderful wholesome organic ale has a dry and bitter finish which brings you right back to earth.

Orange-gold beer with a rich, creamy head. The scent is filled with honeyish malt, and some grassy hops. The taste has some lemony and grassy hops. The aftertaste has some bitter, piney hops.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2013 Original rating June 2012 - Bottle; clear gold, minimal bubbles, just like Golden Hare in appearance; biscuity malt and a hint of caramel; crisp, hoppy, fairly spicy; dry finish; failed to find any fruit beyond the merest hint of lemon; unmemorable, the Gem and Golden Hare are much preferable. Original score 2.9. Tried again on NYE 2012, again in bottled form; found it much fuller and fruitier and generally moreish; drunk this time alongside a cartload of strong cheddar (which may have helped it, I don’t know); Score 3.7 (have amended overall score to give an average of 3.3).

500ml Bottle. Aroma is quite lively with zesty fruits, malt and hops. It pours well with a lacy white head and is just a touch lighter than its stable mate Golden Hare. Taste is malty giving way to grapefruit tones with a dry finish. THis is Bath Ales’ organic beer - personally I dont go for all that organic BS usually but I do think this is the best of their bottled range.

Pleasant floral aroma, lightly hopped with some citrus and grapefruit. Enjoyable session beer, could be more strongly hopped.

Cask@Birimingham Beer Festival. Pale/golden beer with a lightly sweet aroma and a dry flavour. Overall a nice dry beer.

Cask (handpump) at The Hop Poles, Bath. More pale amber than gold in colour. Loose, but lasting, white head. Touches of fruit in the aroma. Smooth and soft on the palate. Restrained flavour with hints of citrus. Pleasant enough but certainly didn’t have the zing that others have remarked upon. I’d guess think this was probably a bit tired, which is not really acceptable when served in the brewery’s own pub. Since its now available in bottle (albeit filtered) I’ll probably get the chance to re-rate; its hard to find on draught.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Hazy golden with a white frothy head. Vague aroma of lemon, soap and raw yeast. Medium-bodied with flavours of straw, soap and grapefruit. Finishes really dry of grapefruit and grass.

(Söderbärke 2007) Yellow color, bubbly white head. Creamy toffee aroma, diacetyl and with fruity notes. Citric and sourish. Malty floral flavor with a late bitterness.

(Bottled) Clear, deep golden with a small, firm and white head. Sweetish and fresh aroma of lemon and honey. Pale-malty flavor with moderate, grassy hop bitterness, and sour-sweetish lemony hints. Lingering, dry and bitter-grassy finish. Light to medium body with medium carbonation. A reasonably fresh and enjoyable summer ale, with maybe a touch of harshness in the hops. A British pale ale ale meets Northern-German pils.

Gravity, Merton BF. Yellow gold with a touch of off-white bubbles. Aroma of berry sweetness, a little fresh cut grass. Slightly chewy berry hop flavor, a touch of malt sweetness. Solid beer, but for me it somehow manages to be slightly less than the sum of its parts. (Really funny to see "chewy" in Glenn’s rating too. I didn’t discuss tasting notes...really!)
