Bottle. Amber reddish beer with a strong head. The aroma is mildly burnt and toffee, and the flavour is very well roasted, toffee and bitter with a smooth finish. Overall a fairly standard English bitter.

Bottled. A rich brown beer with a tiny off-white ring of head. A fruity malty beer with bits of toat and coffee in the mouth. Aroma has leather and booze. A bit of bread too. Pretty decent.

Cask (as Cheltenham SPA). Deep golden/amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel and crystal malts with some mild riped fruits, wood and mild herbal notes. Flavour is similar along with some resiny and grassy bitterness. A bit mouthdrying as for the palate.

(Cask at Angleterre, 20111031) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses and sulphur. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, sulphur, hint of smoke, hops, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, smoke and bitterness. Nice bitter and even the suplhur wasn’t disturbing.

(Cask at Market Porter, London Bridge, London, 24 Nov 2010) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, toast and marmalade. Malty, slightly nutty taste with notes of dried fruit, roasted nuts, toast and a touch of bitter orange marmalade. Decent bitterness in the finish. Medium body, balanced sweetness. Fairly nice one.

Cask at O’Connels, Tampere. Hazy amber color. Fruity and caramelly with wine gums and fruity bitterness. Tannic hops in the palate. Nice old time bitter ’bitter’ as they used to be in the nineties.
