COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottle: Regular.
NOTE: Battledown likes to use the acronym SPA in the beer names. This can cause confusion. The full name of this beer is Cheltenham SPA Standard Pale Ale but only the word Standard is prominent on the pump clip. However, for the bottled version it is SPA that is given prominence on the label.
A light gold pale ale, fresh and lively with a clean dry taste.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 7/07/10. Deep gold with a slight white head. Chewy cereal malts, some grassy hops and a dryish finish. Good.

Bottled, 500ml from Sainsburys, Banbury (as Standard Pale Ale). Gold to amber with white head. Biscuity, malty body with a touch of wet cardboard, grainy, some flowery hop notes, but a little understated. Late fruitiness with a balancing bitter. It’s ok, but this SPA thing leads to confusion.

Cask, handpump at The Slug and Lettuce, Cheltenham, @ Cheltenham Folk Festival w/e Sat’ 13th Feb’ 2010 Pours gold with a nice white head, crisp and decent hoppiness, nice tanginess, dry finish, touch of vanilla, very nice and I was surprised how well this was kept in a place like this that I wouldn’t ordinarily frequent.
