Here is the story; I left my house last night, going to the hospital with my wife. 4½ hours later I return with my new born son Melvin, a perfect little boy. Sitting in my couch at 1 am looking at him I need something to celebrate and find my newly arrived EYO from JP in the fridge. It might be the situation or it might just be the beer, but this is the most perfectly balanced beer I can remember having since.....well since Orval maybe. Fruit, funk, drinkability is just perfect. It makes me think, this is the kind of beer thats the reason I’m in the beer business, the reason I started drinking craft beers to begin with. Thanks a lot JP and cheers to my new son Melvin! I will take you to Dexter when you are old enough so that you can experience maybe the greatest brewery in the world for yourself!

Purchased from Jolly Pumpkin Ann Arbor Brewed with rosehips & rose petals, this beer has a definite floral component. Yes, the signature Jolly Pumpkin funky sourness is here, but this beer is incredibly addictive. Slightly fruity with a floral/bitter finish, a really great beer that I wish was more readily available.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2010 Totally effervescent and teeters on the edge of going off. Lovely reddish brown color, very bright. Very clear pour with only two days settling time. Fantastic head regeneration, which bring incredible tartness to the nose (overripe apples, cidery), with a totally signature JP yeasty tang, as others have mentioned. The aroma is so fresh and clean - I could smell this incredible beery floweriness all day long. Perfection in the aroma. Light and airy in the mouth, with all sorts of interesting flavors; a little grainy bready malt with a boatload of exotic fruit skin tannins (cherry, but not so deep...weird), spicy. Looks like cinnamon, maybe this is influencing me. A tart, refreshing, challenging beer at a fantastic ABV. Great stuff.

750ml capped, thanks Derek! Darker golden red amber, pretty hazy, with very dense off white head. First thing on the nose to hit me is that unmistakable jp yeasty funk. Light lemon and un ripe strawberries, floral rose petals, dry chalky oak...unique saison nose for sure. Very dense lively carbonation. Delicate floral and lightl tart fruit flavor at first, dry light hay, hibiscus...so flavorful and full feel, especially given the 4.3. More of a farmhouse or funky saison rather than a traditional saison. Damn good stuff though and would love more.

Sour floral perfumey sweet funky jp twang. Hazy amber pour thinnish foam on top. Lots of floral notes - soft and fruity, lightly tart. Rose petals evident. Earthy and herbal. Light lingering quenching tartness. Very nice stuff. Nice light yet flavorful well carbonated brew.

750ml bottle acquired in trade. Poured a medium to deeper amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of floralness, herbal, citrus, and lightly funky. Tastes of caramel, floral, spices, and the same lighter funkiness. Nice light sour and tart after taste. Wow, only 4.3% - I could drink this one all day!

Bottle pours cloudy red amber color with white head. Aroma has a nice straw and hay barnyard funk. Really nice. Mouthfeel has a lot of carbonation. Not as bad as the other baudelaire I recently reviewed. This is more to the style. Flavor is floral funk, earthy, floral, and is tasty. Not as spicy as other Saisions I’ve had. This one has more funk and is really nice.

Had this out of the bottle. Purchased at the JP Cafe. Poured a cranberry red with a nice white head. Aroma was of under ripe raspberries, barnyard, watermelon, toasted grain and some floral characteristics. Taste was more melon, cranberries, classic JP funk in the middle with a tart and dry earthy finish. I think the aroma was slightly better for me than the taste, but it’s a really enjoyable beer to drink. The perfect picnic beer. Whatever that means.

Pours a pinkish red amber with a big, rocky white head that’s tinted slightly pink. Aroma smells like flower pedals, JP funk, perfume, and a bit of bitterness. Flavor is pretty close to being the best I’ve had in a saison, Light funk and subtle perfume notes over a deep profile of flowers, citrus, and a bit of spice. A slight herbal bitterness, with some strawberries. Lighter bodies, effervescent mouth feel. A yogurt like lactic note in the finish. All in a 4.3% abv beer. Wow, I’m absolutely blown away. Trying to not be too superlative in my review, but my god this is great.
