4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 evanrail (54) - Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC - JUL 23, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 29, 2008 .75-liter bottle from the related Decanter restaurant, Milano. Label states "25°P" and "Alc. 10.5% vol."
In appearance, aroma and flavor this beer might be thought of as more like a strong Belgian ale than a barley wine.
The bottle contains substantial sediment and the first glasses pour a fairly cloudy orange-amber with a thick-set creamy head. There are notes of almond milk and candied oranges in the nose. It is very unctuous in the mouth, coating the tongue, followed by a crisp, clean and moderately astringent finish.
Later pours with more sediment produce a yeasty nose and bright herbal / mint flavors.
Quite an unusual beer, and not at all unwelcome. Excellent.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - MAY 20, 2007
Draught at Salone Della Birra Artigianale e di Qualità 2007, Milan Cloudy gloden color. The aroma shows some fruitness and esters, another fermentation problem. The body is strong enough, a bit oily. Not enough malt taste, strong bitterness. Strong, but not enough Barley Wine, and it’s wrong.
