Draught (Paddy Whelans, Riga) - Dark gold/amber with a white head. Malty and grainy aroma. Clean tasting with malt and a bit of citrus. Well made, but nothing special.

gyllenbock (4397) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 23, 2012
Bottle at a tasting in Uppsala, July 2012. Thanks SaintMatty. Almost clear golden with a medium white head. This was not that sweet. Bread, malt, some notes of metal and very light notes of hops. Drinkable.

rauchbier (3590) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - JUN 16, 2012
Bottle, froman ethnic food store in Scunthorpe. Gold, thin shortlived white head and gentle condition. Sweet fruit caramel dominant in the nose with a slight fruity hop note, developing into Horlicks and honey. Very soft and quite sweet in the mouth with more caramel maltiness, honey and a slight flowery hoppiness emerging although the Horlicks disappears. Brief sweet finish becoming slightly hoppy and bitter

Pours a sprightly golden with a ruby tinge. Rich, honeyed aroma. Tastes of a watery, insufficiently steeped hop solution. Not well.

altonbrownd (3766) - Brussels, BELGIUM - SEP 24, 2011
Bottle from Place Luxembourg, Brussels. Golden body with big head. Nose of sweet and malts and corn. Taste is not bad at all, malts and some caramel in the house. Light syrupy texture. Went down well as I was doing yard work.

On keg in Riga. Pours a blonde colour with a fair white head. Aroma is very bready with caramel and light grassy hops. Similar bready flavour with mild bitterness and grassy hops again. A little oily mouth-feel with mild carbonation and CO2 prickle. Caramel linger. Not too bad.

Sweet malt aroma. Sour malt flavor with hints of caramel and butterscotch. Watery and bitter aftertaste. Yet another awful Latvian caramel beer!

Pale golden pour. The aroma is a bit sweet with a little bit of minerally character. As it warms up it’s actually pretty decent. A little bit of light sweetness and some faint herbal character. Pretty decent actually - works with my shishlak.
Earlier Rating: 8/20/2011 Total Score: 2.7
Pale golden pour. The aroma is quite metallic and a little bit astringent as well. Sort of sweet but there is a touch of woody hop character as well. Light and assertively bitter. Clean though.
