Canned. A dark amber coloured beer with a small beige coloured head. The aroma is sweet and jammy. Fruity and alcoholic. The taste is sweet with caramel notes. Berry fruits and alcohol. Warming. I cannot understand the snobbery about this beer. It is really good, and is a doppelbock by any other name.

7.9% deep amber colour with a thin head, caramel malt aroma and taste, I think this could be the best of the Bavaria beers.

The one I had is a 330ml aluminium bottle (had never seen before, kind of a can with a bottle shape). I think "Red Bavaria" is the right name. Contains wheat, a novelty comparing to the tipical red ones I know. The wheat and the shape/material made me curious. The smell right from the bottle is affected by the aluminium, but this effect fortunately disappears when the liquid is in a glass (different from some cheap cans). Fast disappearing small off-white head. The palate is closer to watery. Few gas. The flavour is very constant: from the beggining to the end it reveals a satisfatory mix of whiskey malts and a few of rust (very good besides the strange it may sounds), and doesn’t change too much, just gets stronger untill the finish. Bitter-sweet. It disapointed me regarding to the wheat it contains, nothing really noticeable. However the flavor is not as intense as I would like. The aroma is even weaker. Anyway the finish lasts for a good while. The appearence is clear, red close to dark orange.
That’s a special red beer, but the overall result is good, not extraordinary comparing to red beers. Anyway that’s still a recommendable beer, and I would drink another very happilly.

Bottle of aluminum, 330 ml. Dark red coloration, with a reasonable beige head. Sweet. Notes of cherry. Nice beer!

It’s a very sweet beer, with cherry notes. Full body. I don’t think it is overly carbonated as reported in previously ratings.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - JAN 5, 2008
Can@Home. Raisin aroma with hints of cherry. Deep red color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, raisin, light bitter, sticky and very soft. Not complex I agree but not bad at all either. Quite pleasant to drink. All those giving such low ratings are probably prejudiced by the fact that it’s Bavaria and in this horrible can. This is an ok beer! And not an European Strong Lager IMO.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dorqui (1552) - Brescia, ITALY - SEP 3, 2005
Determined and persistent foam, optimal aspect. Dark red color, burnt; medium fizz. Alcoholic and bitter scent, notes of toasted malt and filled with smoke leaves. Woody aroma. Dry and tenacious taste, much bitter. Elevated alcoholic tenor. Good persistence. Sweet strong lager.

Sipping a can of this whilst writing.
OK this is a mass produced brew but it’s not as bad as that.
It has a very nice colour with a nice dense foamy head.. OK it doesn’t have the complexity of a Begian brew and it’s a tad too sugary but as industrial beers go I think this is drinkable. Far better than the other brews from the same stable!
