Bought a 500ml can at the supermarket. The color clear blonde and the head a small and dissapears quickly, CO2 level is a little low. In the aroma light roasted malt and spices and the alcohol is noticable. The taste is light malty with a touch of sweetness. The warming alcohol is recognizable. The finish is fresh with a light bitter in the end.

Lattina. Schiuma a bolle larghe, di difficile sparizione. All’occhio il colore risulta giallo intenso. Il gusto č di amaro deciso e corposo. Intensitŕ olfattiva elevata. Persistenza olfattiva sufficiente. Frizzantezza continua ma rada. Corpo strutturato con gradazione alcolica importante e che si sente tutta. Persistenza gustativa buona. Intensitŕ gustativa elevata.

Pours sparkling deep amber. White frothy head. Aroma is high: honey, fig leaf, plantain, liqueur. Sweetish start, powerful and at the same time soft; Long finish.

Canned. Small white head, clear golden color. Smell is sweet, but taste is more bitter than sweet. Don’t get me wrong it is still little sweet, but there is bitterness too. Aroma of sugar, some grains and must. High alcohol percent, but I can’t taste any alcohol. Nice beer.

Can. Pours golden, with a small creamy head. Aroma is surprisingly pleasant, sweet malts, with bread, grain and toffee, as well as notes of alcohol and light herbal hops. Full body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet, grainy malts, with a solid alco burn, as well as soapy notes of grass and coriander. Sticky, sweet finish.

As Bavaria 8.6 Original from 50 cl can. Decent, coarse but fairly stable (though eventually dissipating), snow white head over a deep golden coloured, clear beer with quiet fizz. Strongish but not very pleasant, sweet aroma of cane sugar, honey, tons of iron in a purely metallic way, raw vegetables, grass, gin, rubber. Sugary sweetish onset, with something blandly honeyish lurking in the background, sweetbread, evolving into a lightly but artificially caramelly, rather thin ’graininess’, very metallic, leading to a wry finish of lingering grain sweetness, a faint hint of simple grassy hops, a lot of wodka-like alcohol and of course, adding insult to injury, a chemical, burnt plastic-like astringency. Petrol for alcoholics as most of these cheap heavy lagers are. I have no idea whether this is better than its AB InBev competitors of the infamous Atlas brand, which were sitting next to it in the Albert Heijn shelf; I reckon this is a bit less offending, but it is still made with wrong intentions, though technically more or less correct in comparison with certain other strong pale ’Euro’ lagers. This style in general is about as bad as beer gets, but this particular example is not the worst, I admit.

(Bavaria 8.6) Can 500 ml at home, served into a glass tankard, ABV 8.6% Deep golden colour on the body, tall white head, thick with good retention, leaving heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malts and sugar, medicinal alcohol. Very sweet taste, malty, not so alcoholic as I expected although the alcohol is there. Medium body, okay carbonation. Nothing special, good if you want to get drunk fast and a strong hangover the morning after.

Clear dark yellow, small white lacing foam ring. Barley aroma and taste, next to the high alcohol content. (Velp 201501)
