COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a classic beer made with special malts and raw materials that produce its amber color, as well as its body and rather dry, light character that distinguishes it from other dark beers. In contrast to the general perception that traditional dark beers are bitter and “heavy,” Bavaria Dark has very different characteristics, due to its hops content. Bavaria Dark was launched in 2001.

Sweet caramel malts. Thin translucent brown with medium head. Simple, tasty, lean and a bit better than the gold.

Can. Aroma has notes of sweet malts and lager yeast. Dark brown hue with an off white head. Flavor is lightly sweet with no bitterness. Palate is light bodied and watery avg. Overall a decent beer for a sunny day in Costa Rica.

Can from Costa Rica. [Shared by Arve. Thanks!] Pours clear reddish brown with a small off-white head. Light aroma with hints of roasted malt and caramel. Sweet and watery, with a hint of raisins. Drinkable, but doesn’t taste much.

Ruby lager with no aroma and head at all, watery with a little bit of caramel, sweet and bitterness finish but it doesn’t last. Just ok for a macro beer, way better than imperial, even if it is a different style...

Had this one while on my honeymoon. I figured that even though I’m out here to relax with the Mrs, I can still rate some beers. Even though there really isn’t much to pick from out there. Pours a dark brown, almost black color. Aroma is mainly of malts, molasses, and fig. Flavor is similar with a medium body palate. Leaves a roasted malt finish. Well at least this is better than Imperial.

It is a bit more expensive than a typical Costa Rican brew, but for a dark beer it is pretty unexciting. In fact the dearth of good brews in CR even had me reaching for the Smirnoff malt brew on occasion, and appreciating it. This tastes a bit like a light dunkel. One bottle of this was enough.
