Commercial Description:
This is a classic beer made with special malts and raw materials that produce its amber color, as well as its body and rather dry, light character that distinguishes it from other dark beers. In contrast to the general perception that traditional dark beers are bitter and “heavy,” Bavaria Dark has very different characteristics, due to its hops content. Bavaria Dark was launched in 2001.

I just got back from CR and drank a shitload of these. I could have done worse and drank more Pilsen. This country’s beer is forgettable but the times I had drinking it were not.

canned (thanks tbone_!). Rubyish amber colour with mediumsized brown lively bubbly head, that disappears quite fast. Aroma is maize, mild metal, and some grainyness. Also some mild roasted notes. Flavour is mildly roasted malts with some mild dark fruits and mild syrup. A quite pleasant dar beer, which is a bit too sweet for my taste though.

Can, shared by Maria - my favorite beer Goddess. The pour has a clear, copper body with an off-white to beige head. Grainy, caramel nose with a decent dose of malt and fruityness. Sweet, fruity and caramel flavor, finishing caramel-sweet. Medium to thin in the mouth. A pleasant and fruity beer, quite surprisingly considering my expectations for a beer from Costa Rica. This one was really bad. The description is wrong about the "amber" color, it is darker than that. They are right however about having very different characteristics than traditional dark beers. It seems like they took a shitty pale lager and added a small amount of corn syrup and food coloring. I had a hard time getting through the can and I was really thirsty.

Amber-nut brown color, small off-white head. Aroma of licorice and caramel. Light caramelly brew. There are hints of licorice and cardboardish hops in the flavor. Similiar than some Portuguese dark beers.

Dark brown mahogany with an Ok head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and sweetness - "hvidtøl" and caramel. The flavour has sweetness, notes of roasted malt, light citrus, caramel and a slightly dry finish. A bit weak, but otherwise quite OK.

Thanks to Maria for sharing. Brown of color with a beige head. An aroma of caramel, toffee and malt. A flavor of sweets and roasted notes.
