Commercial Description:
This is a classic beer made with special malts and raw materials that produce its amber color, as well as its body and rather dry, light character that distinguishes it from other dark beers. In contrast to the general perception that traditional dark beers are bitter and “heavy,” Bavaria Dark has very different characteristics, due to its hops content. Bavaria Dark was launched in 2001.

Bottle: Brownish color, no aroma at all. For a Schwarzbier the taste is simple and one dimensional, no character, some similarities with a Negra Modelo. A disappointment if you expect a dark beer (or any kind of a beer).

Watery brown body with a lager aroma, slightly sour. Taste is watery, with some malt, and soda water taste. Really, your typical lager with slightly heavier malt, and added sweetness. Sampled at Twister Bar in El Pueblo, San Jose, Costa Rica

Never had the chance to pour this in a glass. Familiar cheap and watery lager-type flavor with a touch of roasted malt. Drinkable, but pretty bland and boring.

it’s a conspiracy...heineken is brewing all of costa rica beers!! and most the worlds. this has some subtle malt overtones with a brown color. in this climate you dont want a beer with crazy bad flavors, you want refreshing, crisp, cold ones, seems they need some wits in this country.

Copper color with fine co2 and a beige rocky head -- retention is better than expected Aroma is malty, with a notable skunk presence (sulfur?). Flavor is sweet and lightly malty, with a metallic finish. Drinkable, crisp mouthfeel. No earthshaking experience, but an interesting rendition of a dunkle. The aroma is a little unsettling, but overall, fairly well balanced. Bavaria Dark was the most drinkable beer I tied in Costa Rica.

Bottle. The best that Costa Rica has to offer. Almost has some body, dark appearance, no bitterness, a touch sweet.

(bottle, best by 3/31/05) Medium tan head atop clear cola body. Aroma is medium sweet, cola, caramel, metallic. Taste is medium sweet, caramel/cola, faint tinniness, no bitterness. Light-medium body.

Watery CR beer with nice color, but no bite to back up the bark. Probably the best local beer availabe in CR - but that’s not saying all that much. If you’re on a beer quest - go to Belgium or Germany - stay away from Costa Rica.
