This is a classic beer made with special malts and raw materials that produce its amber color, as well as its body and rather dry, light character that distinguishes it from other dark beers. In contrast to the general perception that traditional dark beers are bitter and “heavy,” Bavaria Dark has very different characteristics, due to its hops content. Bavaria Dark was launched in 2001.

Copper color with fine co2 and a beige rocky head -- retention is better than expected Aroma is malty, with a notable skunk presence (sulfur?). Flavor is sweet and lightly malty, with a metallic finish. Drinkable, crisp mouthfeel. No earthshaking experience, but an interesting rendition of a dunkle. The aroma is a little unsettling, but overall, fairly well balanced. Bavaria Dark was the most drinkable beer I tied in Costa Rica.

can - decent in the right setting, but nothing special. light malt flavors and a little dry finish in what otherwise would be a standard macro type beer.

Lots of chocolate malt and relatively smooth body for a mainstream beer. Bananas and unknown chemicals dominate the mouth. Better than expected.

Ok, so I'm on vacation in Costa Rica and drinking this beer. That means it gets a bit of a head start right there. Poured from a bottle and it is a ruby brown in color and makes a thin off white head. Smells a bit metallic and of cereal. Tastes of malt and little else. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cereal/grain, dog food, husks, caramel). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Typical super-rough, grainy dark beer, similar to what you get in Mexico. Slightly better than most swill pale lager, but not by much.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2015 Bottle enjoyed by the pool in Costa Rica. Pours a dark brown color with white head. Somewhat minimal noise with grainy, slight roasty, malty aromas and flavors. A little more body and flavor than the Bavaria Gold but still pretty macro tasting.

A clear reddish brown dunkel with a thin mocha head. In aroma, light sweet nutty malt with light grassy hops. In mouth, a nutty crisp malt with light caramel and chalky character, boring. Can from Auto Mercado San Jose.
