Bottle: Deep amber coloured, thin foamy off-white layer; faint dark-malty, caramelly and alcoholic nose; sweet-malty flavour with a tinge of chocolatey bitterness; quite light bodied for a beer of this strength; sweet finish with a lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Not unpleasant, but a quite bland and one-dimensional Doppelbock, would be better called "Warsteinerized European Strong Lager"........................

Danke an Auxburg1986!

Grima (1572) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - JAN 19, 2011
The beer in glass is almost black, with beautiful red tinge, but there is hardly any foam. The smell is surprisingly alcoholic, sweet roasted malt also. Starts malty, with a slight alcohol note on the palate, also pleasantly bready roasty and chocolaty. The aftertaste shows more strength becoming bread, alcohol grade increases with every sip.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, and metal. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel, alcohol, and metal, leading to a dry metallic finish.

Bottle@Home. Very malty, sweet and well hopped. Yet still easy going although it has strong flavours. Some licorice and laurel in the finish.

It’s very dark brown and the head is creamy. The aroma has notes of syrup, alcohol, roasted malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of syrup, alcohol, caramel, light licorice and a hint of nuts. It’s nicely balanced.

Feinschmecker (202) - Seattle, Washington, USA - OCT 27, 2009
Dark brown and aroma of molasses or brown sugar. Almost no hop profile. A touch of fruitiness, roasted malt and a little cereal-like. Perhaps a little one dimensional, but still a decent bock.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of MoritzF. Clear nutty brown with a beige head. Intense aroma of roasted malt and some alcohol. Quite full-bodied with a very solid malt base, nuts and a little hard roasted malt. Lightly bitter finish. Pure muscles!
