COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is of the Dortmunder variety. Its high proportion of malts and fine-quality hops, as well as its golden color and appetizing head, make Bavaria Gold a beer of European type and character. The sensory balance of freshness, body and bitterness, together with a jealously guarded production process, make Bavaria Gold a premium-quality beer that has been in production since the 1930s.
At some point the ABV went from 4% to 5.1%.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2006 Great, finally a bottled Costa Rican beer with character. I like its colour, really dark yellow, and the taste it is a little sweet but strong. NO corny flavors.

Much better than the Imperial. Heavier mouthfeel and body. Medium head straw gold. There might even be some hops in this one. Less corn, no off notes. Fine for what it is.

Can. Aroma has notes of sweet malts, Belgium yeast. Rich golden hue with a small white head. Flavor is medium sweet with light bitterness. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Overall a crappy beer.

Can from Costa Rica. [Shared by Arve. Thanks!] Pours pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is pretty light, mainly sweet malt. Sweet and watery with a hint of bitterness in the finish.

cans on the beach, cans in the restaurant. more twangy and syrupy than most other Florida Ice Company pale lagers, but generally less offensive, and not because of lack of flavor. it’s corn-like and sweet but mostly clean and tolerable given what else is available. still a notch below the big one - Imperial - for Costa Rican pale lager.

Can from Sandy O. Pours pale gold with a fizzy white head. Aroma is just bready. Flavor is bready with a little bit of noble hop to spin it along. A hint of citrus in the finish. Probably just the thing to wash down food.

This is an upmarket offering from the same Costa Rican brewery that makes Imperial. It is the best of the CR beers that I tried, but it is still nothing special. There is some more sweetness and malt flavor here than in typical pale lagers. RB has it listed as a pilsner for some reason.

Bottle at a wet bar in C.R. Light, straw-colored, with little head. Aromas of stale corn and adjunct. Flavor is similar, with corn and stale notes. Not great. [731]

Very hazy deep straw with minimal white head. Flavor is all cereal grain with a harsh bite. Not good.

Pours a clear and yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is weak with malt and DMS. The flavor follows the nose closely. The palate is sweetness. Overall a beer below average.
