I stopped by the Hilal Market today because the Indian Grocers were closed; I figured I would duck in for some Naan and split. While walking by the cooler I saw some beer bottles, how very unexpected. On my way to the counter I couldnít help but pick one out. Now there is obviously nothing wrong with a Non-Alcoholic beer in a Hilal grocery store, but like the all beef hot-dogs itís one of those things that you canít help but do a double take upon noticing. Anyway Bavaria Regular Malt pours really nice looking for any beer, let alone an NA with a bright golden color, some effervescent bubbling, and a very nice looking big rocky white head that leaves some nice lace on the glass. The aroma is malty and tosty with some corn flakes. The flavor is less sweet than the aroma lets on, and less sweet than many NA beers Iíve had. Still itís pretty sweet and in no way escapes the dreaded corn flakiness oh so common in especially these Euro NAs. What strikes me is that the beer is hoppy, itís not enormously hoppy, but itís bitter and there are plenty of earthy and herbal hop notes throughout in this beer. They bring some balance and really theyíe well used in this style of beer to bring an enjoyable more beer-like flavor. Something deep within me takes great joy in knowing that there are Muslims in my community enjoying the flavor of hops.

Can. Thanks Pinball. Clear yellow with a small white head. The aroma is lots of corn and sweet caramel. Flavour is very sweet and corny. Yuk. Flat and dull.

An interesting change of pace for a non-alcoholic beer. Very malty, the malt is sweet and rich, without being dark. There are some hops and the hops are pleasant, but the malt definitely dominates the aroma. Sweet aftertaste, yet while remaining clean and fresh, and not too heavy. Most similar in overall character to Buckler, among non-alcoholic brews, but still significantly maltier and less hoppy than Buckler. More hoppy and more complex and overall better than most American NA beers. My only complaint is that Iíve only seen this stuff in 8.4 oz. bottles...too small, and not worth the price for regular consumption.

Smells like lemon juice and wet barley in the can, and I have no place to poor it. It assumably looks like below-average beer but I canít find a place to actually get it out of the can, except for inside my mouth. Oh wait, just found a drain to pour some down - off-yellow, a little dark for a malt beer. The taste is a weird cross between wet dark-barley cereal, sort of like pumpernickel soaked in weak beer. This thing does have a mouthfeel though, a kind of tingling on the tongue after you quaff it. But make sure to quaff it quickly, and only if youíre thirsy and water (or real beer) isnít available.
