Newtown Brewfest 2010. Ruby pour with a nose of caramel malts and grass. A citrus / grainy taste. It was an interesting brew. These guys are getting close to taking the next step. Not sure what it is they are lacking in other than, more hop, higher quality malt.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2011 Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-amber color with a huge tan head. The aroma was faint fruity hops though a touch rough. The flavor was very tart, bitter and dry with an off sweettart candy element. The finish was long, dry and tart. My second beer from this company and my second solid drain pour.

Tap. pours out copper with a small slightly off white head. Aroma is of caramel, toffee and light nutty notes. Taste is about the same as the aroma, big time malts, lots of sweetness. Could have definitely used some hops somewhere....

650 ml bottle
Thanks to Cliff for cracking this open at a winter tasting. I had never heard of Bavarian Barbarian before. Their beers were decent enough that they should see wider release. If I ever make a run to Bullfrog I’ll be sure to swing by here as well and stock up on what seems to be promising local/regional brewery.
Aroma / Appearance - The thick ochre head was the color of slightly tanned skin. Under it was a cloudy maroon body which smelled of cherry pie, malt, and some hops. Solid but not exceptional it did everything right.
Flavor / Palate - Light and sessionable like a good amber ale should be this was nothing special. Overall it just like any other paint by numbers beer except done with care. If you’ve had an amber ale from most breweries you have probably tried something very similar to this one already.

On-tap at the brewery tasting room.Tis one at 4.5%. A nice amber colour with a big head, and lacey. So-so drinkable. A bit less tahn average mouthfeel, tingling carbonation. Mildly fruity and hoppy. A little off taste, would like it more bitter.

Brewed in the USA... Pours copper in color with a nice foamy off white head. Aroma of malts, nuts, caramel and earth. Taste of wood, malts, grains and earth. Mouthfeel is kind of thin in body with a lingering dry bitterness. It is a easy going beer !!!!

Those of you who know me will realize instantly why I made a bee-line to try this one at the festival. It was, quite, disapointing. Muddle s and a fair bit too sweet. Lots of over ripe fruit mixed in with a watery body... Hops were about three years old and sittiong in the sun too long. Barf. The hammer was rusty.

Pours a cloudy dark amber color with some golden orange hues when held to a light source and a frothy two finger head that slowly settles into a lasting cap that leaves sporadic chunks of lacing.
Aroma is kind of bland with some caramel malt, biscuit and subtle hops.
Crisp medium body with some crisp floral hops balanced out by a caramel malt backbone with a slight dry finish. Subtle hints of earthy grass. Decent session beer.

Bottle from Wegman’s Williamsport. Pours deep copper with off-white head. Nose is grainy malt, earthy, citric, with nuts. Tastes malty, earthy, peaty, with hopcitrus and an overall ESB/British mild type of flavor and palate.
