Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 7, 2006 The aroma holds sweet candy sugar and fruit notes with a rich sweet maltiness and mild dirt/dust notes. The body is a cloudy and ruddy brown and holds a massive three finger thick tan head that is both bubbly and diminishing. Low intensity flavor on the initial sip. There are some muted apple notes and mild fruit peel tinged sweetness. It feels spent like it once had flavor and couldn’t hold onto it. The carbonation is tongue tingling, but not out of control and the lacing is non existent with foam left from sips quickly sliding down the inside of the glass. Ho-hum.
note666 (192), Eindhoven, Netherlands Aug 15, 2008 330 ml bottle. ruby brown colour. BIG off white head. not as carbonated as the blond, but still to much. taste is not as dark as I hoped, more fruity than I expected... Borresteijn (427), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 14, 2008 Bottle in Bruges. Dark amber brown colour, beige fluffy head. Aroma of caramel and forest fruits, yeast. Flavour is dry, roasted malts, spices and yeast, forest fruits. OK BoBoChamp (618), Gent, Belgium Jul 20, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, easy to drink, yet complex, clear, rocky head, nice brew joohefner (379), Isla Vista, California, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a murky brown-maroon color with thin tan frothy head. It has a light sweet chocolate and phenol aroma. Smooth body with a slight stickiness. Caramel and chocolate flavor with some tart cherries and a light spiciness. The tartness is unexpected and makes me wonder whether it was a bad bottle or a flemish influence.
