COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark ale, fermented in the bottle.
Inspired by a Breughel painting, “The Flemish Proverbs” (1559), in which several Flemish proverbs are depicted amongst which is the expression "He’s a pilaarbijter" ("pillar biter"), which means, ’He’s a hypocritical man.’

33cl bottle. Brown amber with bubbly, tanned head. Nose : burned caramel, fruits and booze. Sip : creamy with delicate carbonation. Sweet with yeast and caramel flavours. Soapy and mild. Nothing interesting.

Dark version of the Pilaarbijter, caramelly and clearly coloured with syrup rather than dark malts, clear bronze-like colour and malty taste with fruity sweetishness, a bit thin mouthfeel and on the bland side. Not better than the blond in my opinion.

Bottle 33cl. Dark brown with small sturdy head. Aroma is heavy and sweet. Chemical? Taste has something I can’t decipher completely. Sweetness, bitterness, but there’s also a strange aftertaste. I remembered this as a great beer, but somehow it disappoints me now.

BOTTLE 33CL from dcmchew. Thanks! Look: clear mahogany, beige frothy head. Aroma: quite simple, malty, brown sugar, very little fruitiness (pear?), no spice or hops. Taste: malty, quite sweet actually, light bitter herbal finish.

A 33 cl bottle from Legacy Liquor in Vancouver. A very dark reddish bronze beer with generous tan head. . Sweet, fruity and yeasty on the nose. Lots of caramelized fruits and malts on the palate. Low bitterness as expected. 3.3.
